if you set it in AHCI/SATAmode in the bios you need the SATA controller driver for windows to see your drive during installation (F6 during install). if you run it in IDE compatible mode you usually dont need any drivers. check your board manual.

just plug ur sata drive into your computer. try to detect it. if it detects then ur ready to install any OS u want.
