you're just being racist without understanding how things in china work. people there are afraid of the chinese state police. if you help, you could be the one end up charged with the crime so over time people learned not to help to protect themselves from the police.
Have you been in China or are you currently living there?

If what you said is true, then that makes me not wanna live in China. If I'm injured and I'm conscious and have my insides laid out on the streets, I would wanna have medical help as soon as possible. I don't know about you, but I can't watch people just walking by me as if nothing happened.

its 8 people out of 1.3 billion people in china. i hope you aren't suggesting that these 8 people represent 1.3 billion people. thats not even a significant sample size..

you just can't compare china with philippines. maybe we already forgot what its like to live in an authoritarian state. things don't work the same way you expect things to work here, there's no due process there, if the police wanna mess you up they will and not only that they can mess up your entire family... so think about that before pre-judging. also if you notice in the vid, eventually an old woman does pull her aside right before the mother comes.

we also don't know if people called the authorities. just cos they didnt help directly doesnt mean they didnt call for an ambulance. there were only roughly 8-10 people who passed by. yes this is shocking but china is not a democracy with human rights, so don't forget that could influence how people react.

i'm not living there but i've been to beijing and shanghai. they have x-ray machines in the train/subway entrances. that alone should tell you that it is still a hardline police state no matter how progressive they are economically. crime is low but thats because nobody wants to end up in a chinese prison. once when i was riding a subway in beijing, a woman was beating up another woman. nobody helped either, but i've seen this kind of thing happen in new york too so it's by no means a chinese-only reaction. i didn't wanna get involved either. when you think about what country you're in and the kind of police they have the first thing in your mind when you see something like this is how to get away from trouble as fast as you can. you don't think about helping.

As far as I am concerned, this woman is the criminal.

Whatever it was she was doing at the time or how important it is does not justify that her 2-year old daughter has wandered off without her noticing it.

RIP, baby girl. That video is just too painful to watch!

So you're pretty much saying that the bystander effect chooses no country. It's just that the transparency of this effect can be greater in China as opposed to say, the United States---coz this kind of shit doesn't happen in the US. Two women fighting each other, I get it---but to leave a helpless child on the street? Granted, somebody called the ambulance, but people walking by her so calmly as if nothing happened? That's pretty f*cked up man. If this sort of thing is "normal" in China, then that's kinda sick.

we, foreigners here in china will feel the same as you do brad. motabang jd mi... but we were already cautioned about it..as what i said in my first post, it is advised to be very careful when helping people much more if you are a foreigner. daghan naman gud na sa balita dri nga ikaw pay motabang ikaw pay ikiha...mao nang mangahadlok ang mga tawo motabang.

sa video wa jd mga puangod ang mga nglabay ra (wa jd nko na gtan-aw human kay dli nya ko katulog) pero i dont think sa china ra ni maapply nga dli manabang.

I have to agree with you on this. If naka notice mo, most balita sa tv nga gikan sa china kay mga bata nga either mahulog gikan sa taas nga building or mga disgrasya. Mga bata. Hain man intawn ang mga ginikanan ana nila. Imagine bata mahulog sa bintana gikan sa Xth floor? Grabe naman sad na ka iresponsable oi. And to think 2 years old lang ang girl nga ni gawas ug naligsan?

Bisan diri sa ato kay ingon ana man, ang mga bata pasagdan nga mag duwa or mag dagan-dagan daplin sa karsada.
