    hello TS,

    can you please use hardware monitor para naa ta'y approximation pila ka watts imong TDP. it's under the category 'Powers'. make sure you're running some sort of a stress test.

    datasheet for i5-700 series states that maximum Tcase for full 95-watt operation sa TDP is at 72.7 degree celsius.

    Spoiler!

    it's assumed i5-760 has a Tjunction 99 celsius and if you're running 97 ~ 98c, this is not possible. note the following from the datasheet:

    Spoiler!

    this means that at your temperature, the #PROCHOT signal should have already activated and has started lowering your frequency and voltage but since it didn't, we can assume that the sensor readings are not working correctly. they were never meant to report accurate temperature in the first place but designed to protect the processor.

    here's my recommendation before you start re-applying the thermal paste. download RealTemp and do a sensor test.

    I believe his processor hit thermal throttle at 97c but CoreTemp may not be accurate enough to show that its really been throttled, Thermal shutdown happens at 105c IIRC.

    I've also tried activating the thermal throttle on my own processor when I got it, it went off at 98c. RealTemp got the Prochot signal right away but other tools still see it as a full 3.5Ghz while RT sees it at 1600Mhz.

    I havent really read the entire thread yet, but Im guessing this is the classic no thermal paste OR heatsink mounting issue which can be fixed in 10mins

    i don't think it's throttled, check the clockspeed at those temperatures, 2.9 GHz, naka turbo pa.

    Mine still shows 3.5Ghz with all tools aside from RealTemp 3.67 so I would blame it on detection error OR his board has an option to disable thermal protection which is an odd ball feature to have.

    @EarlZ: point taken.

    @TS: try another utility, bai. CPU-Z perhaps side-by-side with coretemp, realtemp and hardware monitor while stressing the cores. accurate man gud sa akoa ang reporting inig assert sa prochot. munaug dayun ang multiplier ug voltage inig pula sa realtemp.

    edit: @ EarlZ, prochot cannot be disabled. this is built right into the hardware, wala'y software management (BIOS).

    Just like mr nicejohn said, impossible nga walay thermal paste kung brand new ni cya pag palit.
    AFAIK naa naman daan sa stock HSF, nakapilit.

    Wa lang cguro natarong og taud, or sayup ang sensor/software.
