psst pwd pa mo singit... hehe

ang ako ra jud maikaingon sa clono ug sa branded na pc or server kay duha ra, technical support and part compatibility testing. sa quality ng materials almost thesame ra man. processors same factory ra man gi gikanan. pareho ra na, mag depende ra na sa nag assemble(kung clone) ug sa paggamit.

i tried setting up DIY servers before sa previous job nako...

File servers, TS servers, printer servers with almost 80 network printers, and etc.

using windows server 2003 R2 and windows 2000 server.

most of these machines are ki salvage ra nako....from old canibalized Pentium 4 desktops.

and a 2 gig E2100 dualcore from a resigned employee

dapat lang gyud daghan ug ram... which is hard to find sa akong situation....the more ram.. the more stable ma accomodate niya ang mga sessions.

grabeh sad mu kaon ug ram if naa kay ki install nga antivirus and network services nga nag dagan.

were they really reliable? non ECC ram is not recommended as far as i've researched, and true server boards and procs have error checking functions and characteristics that prevent problems with server operations.

yes they were reliable.. especially if simple ra imung gamit... like simple fileserver and print server

somehow.... magka problema gyud if heavy operation imung server...like application servers with a backend database on the same machine, DHCP servers, and machines nga used for Domain controllers. and also proxy servers
sakto sad nga naay error corrction capability ang mga server hardwares.. kay grabeh man gud ang number of transactions/sessions between client and server.... especially like for example

500 clients -------> conecting to a application server (1 servermachine) ------> connecting to a machine holding the entire database
PS... if simple ra gani imung gamit... you can have a simple dual core machine with 3 gigs of ram and a 32bit server os. and ofcourse a reliable PSU

BTW... u dont need to order something outside sa pinas... u need to get in touch with local suppliers and hear out their Tech solution presentations
last year ni attend ko sa comdap sa SM... naay mga small business servers that cost around 40 to 60 k ra ..... and the cool thing is that these servers use SAS drives
pwerteng gamaya urag laptop harddisk.... but also there ar servers nga gamit sad ug standard SATA dtives... which is very common dire sa market.

tapos nko nag reseach ani sauna tung nag plano pako maghimo ug webserver pero ni back-out man ako financier so wla madayon..

Kuya Toinker... pwede na ka mag negosyo ana... ikaw tig set up ug mga server farms
ang main challenge lang gyud is reliable hardware

    Back to topic:

nindot ang branded server machines if u are using it in critical company corporate wide stuffs...
but for a start.. @TS you should try experimenting first on setting up a simple windows based server and then mag mag himu ka ug mini work group .... but anyway.... there is always tech support for branded stuffs

just build one based on one of AMD's shanghai quads. pair it with a good serverboard and ECC rams and your good to go...

i don't think reliability will be an issue if you use quality parts...

same goes with branded pc's vs clone ones...

the only diff will be tech support...
