    The X99 platform with DDR4 and GTX980's in Sli seem to be the sweetspot based on my research.

    What's yours? please give us info on your build and feedback on the performance.

    Thanks.

    if you want 4k gaming @ 60 fps go for titan x....
    980 sli on 4k is not as smooth as titan x sli...
    980 was never a 4k gpu, it's only good for 1080p->1440p.
    here's my specs or you can search for my previous post here...
    CPU : 5820K
    MB: X99-A
    MEM: Crucial DDR4 2400 4GB x 8
    GPU: 2xTitan X Sli (from 3x970 -> 2x980)
    PSU: EVGA 850G2
    Cooling: H105
    SSD: 1TB EVO
    SSD: 256 MX500

    if electricity and heat is a concern stay away from AMD.....

    Asus is coming out with 4k, 120Hz, IPS, FreeSync later this year. Expected price is $1000+usd. I've been waiting something like this to come out for years.

    Im using 2560x1440, 144Hz, 8-bit, NVidia G-sync, TN, 8-bit, panel right now (Asus PG278Q) with EVGA NVidia GTX760 single card on Phenom II, 6-core, 1100BE.

    I did'nt get 4k monitor, although cheaper, since they only come in 60Hz without G-Sync. 60Hz doesn't cut with me anymore. They give me headaches playing 3D games.

    GTX 760 I've got will be listed in Craigslist soon, for sure. Money earned will go to new Radeon FreeSync.
    I'll have to wait what GPU card they recommend to run single monitor MG279Q. It might not need much GPU horsepower since its on FreeSync.

    BTW - bought 2 year 'return policy' on my PG278Q for expected situation like this.

    Teaser:

    My monitor: - took out asus oem stand to fit the monitor on my small corner desk.

    gsync is superior than freesync...

    60Hz does'nt work for me regardless of how cheap it is.....hinay siya sa TrackIR gamit nako. labi pa ug naka 3D. Asus don't have MG279Q in G-Sync. I am using G-Sync at the moment.

    Pangutana lang brad - unsa may momitor gi gamit nimo karon? 'photobucket' kono brad, palihug lang.

    Kalimut ko - G-Sync Hardware is available after market. Check your monitor if it is compatible

    I would also like to hear from people who have tried a 3monitor setup compared to just 1 34" (or bigger) 4k monitor. Comparisons and preferences from you fortunate ones unta.[/QUOTE]

    Glide^ I'll post my experience as soon I'll get MG279Q, including GPU card used....Hopefully, dili ni sya magdugay. Mo - huwat raba ko pila ka simana usa ko mo palit para ma-ayu nila ang 'bugs'. Kini akong PG278Q daghan bugs unang gawas. daghan nag RMA ani. kapoy uli2x ug putos aning karaho

    pagka karon, okay ko sa akong PG278Q (even tho TN panel) pero nindot gyud ang 4k labi kung mu-adto ko sa tindahan.

    robz0996 -

    I read the article sa HardOCP. He previously had 2 Titans in sli and preffered the 290X's? only thing he missed was PhysX of course.

    Agreed, dont have to go x99 platform but having quad channel DDR4 should be good for thruoghput, rendering, etc.. Price is more or less the same for mobo and proc - and ram maoy mahal pa.
