What OS do u used? if ur using XP thats more than of the specified requirements. If ur using windows vista, thats much better, You can see the 8GB installed.

Use a third party software like EVEREST or CPUZ to check the actual memory size...in the bios could also do.

buy a 64-bit windows xp or a vista. or use any free 64-bit linux OS. 32-bit OS's are limited to around 4GB of memory, including the memories in your expansion cards.

    cheers!

Bro, use vista ultimate to see how much memory you have installed. As long as you can see it all on the bios the 8GB Memory, no problem.

Dont worry, coz there is just a limitation in all operating system better use the latest one and know which operating system that suits for your specs.

    Goodluck bro.

    FYI:

just to clarify things here, and i mean no offense. getting a Vista OS does not guarantee that you will see all 8GB of your RAM. as a matter of fact, getting just any latest OS won't do the trick.

the only OS's that can see your full 8GB are the OS's with 64-bit registers, or the 64-bit OS's. there are limitations on the 32-bit OS's in memory addressing. technically speaking, a 32-bit register meant that 2^32 addresses, or 4 GB of RAM, could be referenced. so to speak, the maximum RAM that can be addressed by a 32-bit OS (Vista 32 or any 32-bit OS for that matter), is 4GB, including the memories of all expansion cards in your system.

in order to see your 8GB via an OS, get a WinXP or Vista 64. or, get any 64-bit Linux OS. a word of advise though, make sure your processor supports 64-bit processing, i.e. Core 2, Athlon64, and the like.

    for information,
    cheers!

    ^What he said.

You need a 64-bit OS installed (XP x64 edition, Vista x64, any 64 bit Linux/Unix distritubution) for you to truly use up all 8 GB of RAM. PAE can only do so much.

Plus you may also have to consider a certain features on your motherboard; one of them is called memory mirroring (taken from your Microsoft KB link):

If you add more memory to the system, it is possible that the BIOS will recognize the full amount of physical RAM that is installed in the server but that Windows will recognize only a part of the RAM. If the server has a redundant memory feature or a memory mirroring feature that is enabled, the full complement of memory may not be visible to Windows. Redundant memory provides the system with a failover memory bank when a memory bank fails. Memory mirroring splits the memory banks into a mirrored set. Both features are enabled or disabled in the BIOS and cannot be accessed through Windows. To modify the settings for these features, you may have to refer to the system user manual or the OEM Web site. Alternatively, you may have to contact the hardware vendor.

I guess BIOS updates on your motherboard may be in order?
