The term modified may be a chip installed to downgrade the PS3 firmware. Ang reason nganong mu downgrade is because the current firmware dili pwede ma jailbreak.
Jailbreak is the commonly used term for PS3 na maka play ug backed up games copied to either an external or the PS3's internal HDD as well as install packages or applications unsigned by Sony. Jailbreak is also the same concept in modifying the firmware in a PSP to play games from the Memory card.
