Starting A Software Company

me and some friends (there's around 5 of us) already have at least 3 years experience in the software development industry.

here the thing: we found someone willing to put up the capital and partner with us. we're making a proposal right now on how make this partnership work. in a way, we're making a startup software development company.

but i need ideas on how much we should share a project profit with our partner. is it fair if we have 40% of the project price, and 60% for our partner?

we're IT/ComE/ComSci graduates by the way. we're not really well-versed with the business side of things. we're taking baby steps so we can fulfill our dream of having our own business. and make it fair for us and our partner.

i'd appreciate if you guys can give sample scenarios regarding this. hope to hear your opinions about this.

if it's venture capitalist that is willing to be your partner, I guess, it could be just right, normally, the capitalist will demand more, and having a 60-40 split seems reasonable to me, IMHO. If you could browse in the net, "Dragon's Den"- it would give you an idea. It's a TV show wherein Entrepreneurs present their ideas/projects and businesses to well known business tycoons with the hope of getting the capital from these businessmen, and they (businessmen) always has the last say in terms of split in share . . .

@skinhead, can i join you guys? had one team before but we have different directions so it didn't materialize. anyway, your concern is just an iota of the whole process since there are a lot of factors to consider para deli tagilid..

for 60-40 split not really ideal for a starter.. if its a partnership, dapat ang model nga i-present fair for both and same risk - of course that if mag shell out sad mog money. he's just doing the financing not the coding and (or) the selling...

IMHO, i don't usually go for partnership if walay koy killer-app or idea para ma sustain sa partnership. lisod gyud kaau ang from scratch kay bisan unsa nalang inyung buhaton especially if you don't have a captured market na daan para maka evaluate mo sa inyung strategic thrust ...

Just this year bro, I was able to attend one of the seminars conducted by Google in UP-Cebu.
As far as I can remember, I think Ayala had this certain program intended for starting entrepreneurs through the program they called Technology Incubation. Kindly contact daw sila bro or go to their website >> The UP Cebu Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in partnership with DOST PCASTRD and Ayala Foundation Inc. for more info. Im not sure lang ha but I think Ayala (thru UP) will provide the capital if they see a good business opportunity nga gi propose sa usa ka starting IT entrepreneur. The good thing in here is that they will provide office space (thru UP-Cebu) para ani nila. Im not sure lang but try daw to contact them basig sayup ko.

This is a dying business bro. Go and be a freelancer. Merge mo sa imo IT people. U need not have a financer. U will earn dollars pa jud. Base on experience on handling Programmers right now.

I'm cool with cyraxx pero you need also to consider seasons nga wala gyud kay client mao nay maka buang.. .. ive tried freelancing.. pero samoka ang naay amo.. i already have a boss for my 8 hr work so nangita kog akoy amo.. instead amo akong ka deal why not my customers..

in short, nindot ang freelancing pero ang question next is how can you sustain your life style or say expenses.. mao sad nay gi suggest sa mga leading "netpreneurs" nga if you're really good and have the skill set then try building your own project.. and latter on monetize it... para deli ka tagilid...
