I think this is problem solved. This should be enough to get me working for a few days before I get a decent memory.

But if the memory is rated to run for 1333mhz, should I just revisit it and ramp the voltages?

Just to add - its always good to manually set rams at their manufacturer' spec from the get go. I have never experienced ram incompatibilty with mobo's in setups before. There are recommended brands for certain mobo's, BUT for me ram is ram, they either work or they don't.

Test the system as much as you can and make sure those are 100% tip top shape, otherwise rma. Ram is the least of your worries (compared to other components) in a system, especially if you are not oc'ing it and just running stock.

+1 to what glide1 said...manually set it in BIOS...don't set it in AUTO..."ram is ram" as what glide1 said...Windows doesn't give a damn unsai brand sa ram imong gibutang diha as long as walai errors ang memchips...

+1 pud sa gi-ingon ni DerFuhrer...explore una unsai best DRAM:FSB ratio sa imong mobo/mems before spending your money for another brand of rams...strive for 2:1 kung pwede...

i'd say go for it - 1333 then ramp up the voltage to no more than 1.65 volts. leave the timings at auto lang usa para luag-luag. stable gani, try to put them back to their rated timings.
