A lot of people might have seen the nice image of the Crescent Moon and a bright "star" tonight (Sunday, May 16, 2010). Little do people know that that bright star is actually the planet Venus. And not only is it a pretty sight with Venus hanging above the crescent moon,
because the moon is in fact about to SWALLOW the planet Venus. Yes, an occultation is basically a mega-eclipse...the moon will HIDE Venus.
The following are a series of photos I took between 7:22PM and 7:39PM tonight, which documents the event...
7:22 PM, building in foreground is "The Walk" at IT Park
7:26 PM
7:30 PM
7:36 PM
7:37 PM First contact! Venus is now slowly sinking into the dark disc of the moon!
7:39 PM...
no more Venus! It's behind the moon now...
I have a video of the actual moment that the Planet Venus disappears or "winks out"...will post here in a bit after I upload it to YouTube.
