These early-adopters are not necessarily "dato" or "gapa-brandish-brandish" sa ilang gadgets, because the economic tier differences in their country aren't that drastic--a business tycoon (who's an early-adopter of technology) ordering dinner at a restaurant in Los Angeles cannot "brandish" his or her iPhone as some sort of status symbol, because the waiter or the grad student in the corner table might have one as well.

I know a bunch of friends in MIT(cyberbuddies in defcon, and they're not fond of the social status) who happens to be the "early-adopters" you are mentioning but the "Social Status" issue does not only conform in the Philippines but also exists in the US of A if you ask my friends.

Here's a real-life example, Stanford University is a really prestigious school and my friends happen to go there. From their point of view, Stanford is 50% full of brat people and 50% are intelligent (that's what they say). What he noticed is that most people there actually uses Apple Products (e.g. the Mac for schoolwork, iPhone, etc.). So my friend asked the tour guide(happens to be a student of Stanford) why people dig Macs instead of cheaper yet more productive laptops like Asus, HP, etc....

You know what's the answer? Because chicks dig Mac. Even though how nerdy or how punk-faced you are, as long as you have a Mac, chicks will dig you and people(including the boys) will envy you. Which means its not an issue of Colonial Mentality, but a Social Problem

well they have a mac para wala distractions. i must admit, sexy and it looks good but a pr0n movie can be consumed in minutes versus MW2 which is pretty much addictive.

Ask yourself this: Did you ever consider buying a Kindle? Or ever envisioned yourself as a Kindle user? Or did you ever say to yourself "I like what the Kindle can do, but it still looks "prototypish" for its cost...



If not, then this is exactly the reason why you feel that the iPad is "useless".

Now, the person who was facing the decision whether to buy a Kindle or not, is now faced with a new decision...
