"Imagine" was an anti-religious song. according to Wiki, because the song is sugar-coated, people accepted it. there are reports that John Lennon was an atheist---although this can be debated. he probably was a closet atheist because he never really came out in the open. if we make his songs as a primary source, then we can say that he was indeed an atheist.

So you will sit by and just watch as someone is committing suicide. You wold not try to stop it.
And you do not want to hear the word Scripture, even if I did not actually quote any.
Atheism is the belief in no God or religion, but you say Atheism is to be considered as a religion.
No God = God: No Religion = Religion. Got ya, clear as mud.

your "scripture" is no way the authority of men.. it only applies to those who same like you, follow it.. there are some of us who doesnt wish to follow it.. so why bug us to follow it...
Well actually it is, and I do follow it. You do not have to, that is your choice. Yes, I should follow your logic, if you want to drown by all means I should just stand around and just let you drown. Don't want to bug you, that would be wasted compassion how totally and disgracefully humane of me.
Maybe because I care for others because their are those who will not. I just fellowship for I am no preacher.

those are the kind of people not appreciated.. to insist that their belief is the right one and saying everybody who disagrees as being wrong.. it is inhumane of you to take away free will.. if somebody wants to die, then let him.. its his life. its his choice...

having no god is the same as having a god.. its just a matter of preference...

keep your scripture to yourself... dont expect others to play with the same rules you follow.. there are people like me who prefer to bend and break those rules.. its only illegal on your book not ours.. hehehe

Since I believe in God and the Bible, my morality is deeply rooted in the Scriptures. If something doesn't abide in the laws and values of the Lord, then I consider it immoral.

ok, so would you not agree if i tell you MORALITY is a universal trait among human beings? is it safe for me to assume that you see "morality without scriptures" as IMMORAL? do you believe in the "Evolution of morality"? hold on, why are talking about morality... hehehe

Here's my general perception about morality: it's relative, especially that even before we discussed about it, no one has specifically pointed out what should be considered moral or not (and which can definitely bring about more debates). But based on your description--and between you and me--there's not much difference. Of course, I would like to assume that you believe in kindness, respect, peace, and love as moral values, which then means we have the same thinking about morality. The only difference is that I would definitely consider any action that goes beyond the scriptures as something immoral, because that's not what God is teaching me.

As for evolution of morality, I am not so sure on what you mean by this, but if my understanding is correct, it simply means that what could be immoral before may no longer be moral today and vice versa. Since I have not dwelt on it--in fact, it's my first time to hear about it--there could be some truth in it, but I don't think I have to accept such principle.

I just asked you that question because of another reply. I may have to track it again.

for christian/muslim/jew/hindu or whatever dire nga grabe ka assertive nga sakto lage jud iya faith, you are asking for religious freedom while kamo mismo nag harass sa mga athiest who wants to practice their own beliefs.. mao diay na sakto? hypocrisy..
Well, chad_tukes said that this thread is also open for non-atheists. Of course, it also leaves a lot of room for intense discussions.

in other words, since we're talking about atheism in this thread, would you consider "unbelief" as immoral? atheism goes beyond the scriptures because the Bible teaches us that there is a creator, a GOD, a supernatural being. IMO, Bible-based morality should not be the basis for all acts of goodness. afterall, absolute morality is not needed to live good, meaningful lives.

Evolution of morality, meaning that, morality changes over a period of time much like people evolved from apes to modern human. a slight brush to this concept is RACISM, for example. during the time of America's forefathers, to write bluntly about race was a common thing and one cannot be punished or persecuted for being racist. today in the US, however, one touch of a racist remark to a fellow co-worker can get your ass fired the next day.

I respect your opinion in the same way that you respected mine. But just to answer your question, I consider the "unbelief" immoral, but that doesn't make a person completely immoral. In the same way, I may have committed or could be committing certain acts that are immoral or do not conform to his teachings. I still have a long way to go when it comes to learning and understanding the Scriptures. Also, goodness and evil can come in a lot of forms, but as for me, I would rather stick with the Scriptures.

no, John Lennon is not an atheist... i think he became a student of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi when The Beatles went to India and practice Transcendental Meditation technique... there are hidden messages in his song "Imagine", including the title... students of mysticism will understand them well as what John Lennon knew and had written in this song
