it's either you were misinformed or you know nothing about music history.

It's a shame really because a lot of current Philippine musicians got plenty of raw talents and just need more exposure and support from you and me.

mao jud bro. single artist back then w/c is ok. marco sison, apo, imelda papin, eva eugenio, vst (vic sotto band), vinnie saturno, gary v,hotdog, etc. Sa banda always mana nindot labi ang compose kay personal life experience. For example old bands nato dre nga rj and the riots, florante, asin, the dawn, maria cafra, ka freddie, the hype, afterimage, introvoys, sampaguita, juan dela cruz band, mike hanopol, wally gonzales, unban dud which is cebu base, abyss, some of bisrock bands raw talent.

daghan unta ta ron ug raw talent, but once ma release na album almost all are cover songs nawala na ang original. Usahay ilisan ang lyrics, the tune is still the same. Mahog nlang hinuon ingnon tag cge pangupya, dli nlang pud ta gahanan mo support. That's i'm digging those classics. hehehe. Usahay pud atong radio stations wla puy klaro mo support. gamay nlang

Even the greatest British band like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones they're music was borrowed from the Black American music. Music is a universal language that knows no racial or regional barriers.

To say that the current crop of talents are copy cats is pathetic. It's like OPM has been established as a genre already. OPM is a misnomer and invented by record labels and the press. If you want original Philippine music you can try music of the indigenous tribe from the isolated mountains of Luzon or Mindanao but that is still debatable since those music are also handed down by the ancestors from Africa when the whole continent used to be a single mass of land.
Bro i guess you have an understanding about music, but there are some things that i can't agree with you on. For music to be original, it may not need to be traced back to ancestral roots, because if we do, then it boils down to Adam and eve.

If you trace the roots of reggae. Legend says that the summer of 66 was too hot in Jamaica and dancers were complaining that the tempo was to fast (ska), so they slowed it down rock-steady was born, but it was still fast, then reggae was born. Three genres came out from Jamaica. Is it original Jamaican music? of course it is, but it started in 1966 not from the Jurassic age.

Yes you were right it is evolving, but to debate that in order to be original it should be traced back from ancestral origins, it would be ridiculous.

The Manila sound then for me is a genre on its own. The kundiman then is actually a genre. but no one promoted it in the international music scene.

    it's normal to disagree.

I will not use Adam and Eve since it's not an establish fact that they were the first humans inhabited this planet and it would be safer to say that the inhabitants of Africa was the first to invented the music. What I was trying to say is that OPM aka "original pinoy music" is a misnomer since artists that we knew as OPM's did not invented a new music style. They were influence by music styles that were already established long time ago and although the lyrics were in Filipino but the music style was hybrid and still borrowed from music styles that was popular during that time. With that in mind it is not fair to call new crops of local musicians that fused in popular music of the newer times and added their own twist or Filipino lyrics. They are doing the same thing as what the previous OPM was doing before.

Are you serious? We don't have to go as far as the Jurrassic to trace Reggae's origins. It's a genre but like the rest it did not came out of nothing and it started from foreign music style that was already popular. I really hate to see someone bashing local artist for fusing music with foreign music style like. Like I said that even the the Beatles and the Stones as great as they are they were very honest to admit that they were influence by the American black music.

qoute from wikipedia - " Although strongly influenced by traditional African and Caribbean music, as well as by American rhythm and blues, reggae owes its direct origins to the progressive development of ska and rocksteady in 1960s Jamaica."

Are you nuts? Show me an original music style now that is pure as the whitest snow and it was not influenced by music styles that precedes it. This is my whole point of argument is that no need to BASH local talents for being not ORIGINAL inspired because all those great bands that we knew today also borrows from music styles that they were inspired or that came before them.

The Manila sound then for me is a genre on its own. The kundiman then is actually a genre. but no one promoted it in the international music scene.
Can you enumerate bands that you would consider original Manila sound?

Kundiman itself did not start from nothing it borros styles from Waltz and Fandanngo which booth are foreign music.

" Ang panahon ng kundiman ay sa kapanahunan ng 1800 at 1930 kung saan ang kundiman ay nagkaroon nang pagbabagong anyo sa pamamagitan ng pagsama ng mga himig na ginagamit sa sayaw katulad ng waltz at fandanggo."
