Mao, lami na kaayo i-close nga topic kay according to Mr. gcc4426 here, ang mahitabo kay puros ra "yada yada yada..." ang mabasa diri. Kay ngano? Individuals like him kay dili man kasabot sa mga explanation ug gipangsulti. So yes, I urge na i-close nalang ang thread.

There are no observable stars within the "local group" that exhibit properties like that of a Red Giant, nor any star in a state of instability, that would allow the formation of a Black Hole near the vicinity of SOL. So kanang "kuyaw" nga phrase, it is incorrect and baseless. Mas delikado pa ang Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) from such an incident kaysa the hole itself. And, mas dako pa ang chances that the earth would get hit by an asteroid/comet kaysa maigo ug GRB or get swallowed up by a Black Hole. And even further remote chances because all of these events might not even happen in your lifetime.

The chances of you getting hit by a jeepney while crossing a street in Cebu City, is a million million times greater compared to the earth getting sucked in by a Black Hole. So be careful in crossing the street--kay kana, it's something you can actually control and prevent--stop worrying about black holes, GRB's and asteroids.

Sakto. I stand corrected. If you do live near a black hole, na kana, kuyaw dyud. I wouldn't want to live in a system close to one.

Pero again, the chances of any member of the human race nga makapuyo in a star system close to one, at this point in human history, is very malabo. Kay ngano? Mas interesado pa daw ang mga kabataan karon maghulat sa next model sa Cellphone, compared to young people interested in rocketry and space travel, according to Burt Rutan. So unless the youth get encouraged to get interested in space and rocketry, na, taman ra ta sa kalibutan intawon. Kung mobuto ang earth, babay na dyud. Pero naa untay chance, if only kids are interested in rocketry and space sciences.

Mao, sakto. I stand corrected and I apologize. I merely want to correct erroneous views kay maka-hype man gud na sa topic. Pero sakto ka. I should stop assuming, but I temper that with my zest and eagerness to inform and my passion to straighten what is crooked. That's all I want to do. Thanks for reminding me about humility.

Our sun is a class G star (GV2 spectral class to be specific). In order to create the conditions for the formation of a blackhole, the star should be 3-4 solar masses heavier than our sun. So no, our sun will not explode, nor will it turn into a black hole.

Our sun will indeed become a Red Giant one day, but that's not until 5 billion years from now. To give you an idea what 5 billion years of waiting is like, if we assume that one human "generation" is about 35 years long, katong ika-142,857,142 nga apo-sa-tuhod nimo lang ang maka-experience sa Red Giant phase sa sun. So klaro kaayo nga dili pa "hapit"

BTW Red Giants do not explode, they transform into Planetary Nebulae when they "die".
