I was waiting for this post. Really

Laptop Rendering is Possible YET Very Impractical. I will not tell more about it but thats it. Better do it in a desktop. You can get more power and productivity in a desktop than a 100k laptop would do.

if you're gonna be doing a lot of projects with it then in the end your laptop would just pay for itself in the long run.

start with what fits with your budget and try to get the best specs within that budget. any brand will do, just research what is the best of the lot. you can model relatively medium-sized polycount scenes with an integrated video card. concentrate more on procs and rams. any core 2 duo will do, 2GB or more will do. don't get too caught up with high priced lappys with dedicated video cards.

if you do decide to get a 100K gaming laptop, just make sure that it pays for itself in a year or so. that way you've already taken into account its depreciation value and you've made good use of your laptop.

that really depends if you wanna do animations. But if you're just beginning to learn animation or 3d modeling, actually 3d packages like maya would run on a low end computer. It would be best of you used a desktop computer with a decent video card. But if you're into advanced lighting/rendering and doing an animation, even the most high-end computer(alone) can render a one-second video clip for more than a day, that is why there's a need for a "render farm", to be able to render scenes in multiple computers. So, don't spend too much on a hardware unless ur planning to do a full length animation film. eehhe...just a thought.

    yes for a start.

    if ur really serious.

    have a mobile workstation with

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9500 (6M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

    4GB of ram

    intel extreme SSD

SLi GRAPHICS ( and download support for GPU enabled rendering )

...now that's called working while having fun.

for the love of Christ, kung mugasto naman lang gani ug 40k - 100K i desktop nalang na, i'm a 3D architectural visualizer and i'm rendering scenes in my laptop, bun-og kaayo oi, ikaw nalang malooy sa imung lappy nga grabi ka init, di ma dag blower, bisan pag paypayan nimu di ma da...

kung gusto jud kag laptop TS, make sure nga arang2 ang GPU, ayaw ng integrated graphics lang, muhilak jud ka pg imung scenes kay mu abot na ug millions of polygons dayon mag crash lang dayon, dapat 64bit system, then at least 4gb ram, pero ayaw pag expect nga kusog nana nga system,

once again i must say, even though ga render kos laptop, it's impractical for such usage... antos lang sa akong laptop gani run until mahuman nako akong gi build nga rig... just my 2 cents...
