Well put. It takes great courage to stand alone. It takes even greater courage to be truly free. Fromm's "Escape From Freedom" is one of my favorite books from childhood (yes, I read it when I was 10).

By assessing the situation or what used to be the situation before when "frat wars" were still so rampant, it was not the fraternity per se who turned these people into trouble makers, but it was these people themselves who's got some serious issues even before they joined some fraternities. The mistake was that recruitment was so lax for some fraternities that anybody can join at any given time which makes it so easy for these kind of people to join and it created a chain reaction.

@ RODSKY .... I have to disagree on the battelground issues . LIterally , if its a battleground, thousands if not hundreds of casualties are laying everywhere in contrast of the military concept comparison . Heck I had my certification for the SAR SWIMMER COURSE of the USN , I know exactly what is hellweek but I cant relate it to INITIATION RIGHTS of FRATERNITIES .

Second , it is hard to justify the occurence of FRATWARS because it cant be a FRATWAR if it is not sanctioned by the 2 fraternities declaring war and slicing an dicing in the neighborhood . Just because a SUSPECT or a VICTIM is a FRATMAN doesnt cut it . Media na pod na bai nagpahaba .

Lastly , nothing is wrong also if people are SOCIALLY ACTIVE in the society rather than being a LONER . The issues will lead to offtopic discussion just like the hundreds of frat threads the orum had . It is like RELIGION , where none takes the pleasure of knowing the core because its a he said , she said aspect . WHat exactly was talked about here regarding fraternities , are only a speck of whats really going on in the real world in respect of the similarity of the behaviours of the NON FRATMEN . Sakto gyud ang sulti nimo bai ... RODSKY doesnt know what he is talking about , I get your drift though but I know a lot dont .

im also a member of one fraternity who is always in the news...sadly it's not a good news... rather than another fratman has been killed again...huhuhuh...so by that time i think about my self and ask, what will happend to me if il continue this?? and that i dont know the answer, but one thing i know is to continue life w/ or w/out them.... and thinking about my future and my family....

So...being a fratman is not easy now a days.... it's like your life is cut into short term =).....
and you can have so many friends if you want to....

    i can say "IM INACTIVE"

All points taken, they're very good points. Like I said, I'm not against groups and brotherhoods--what I'm against is when internal rules of such organizations are bent and skewed to the point that it causes harm and death.
