^ oi nice, good to hear the company name "KEWL Solutions"... ehehehehe... one of the founder/ investor is my 1st degree cousin and he's currently running the office...
if ever mag istorya mo, extend my greetings to him... dako kaayo'g tao then, mag manoi to sya nko... ako kay bonsai man... hehehehe...
ah i see... hehehe... partner mana sila sa Dell. mo serve na sila pud anywhere in the Philippines... medyo, bz gyud to's Jay...
balik ta's inquiry ni TS,
@ TS,
ask lang ko. for personal or enterprise use ning NAS nimo? if personal, mag nice kun ikaw ang mag DIY... dali ra man kaayo pud... para sa akoa, mas nice ni compare kun mo palit ta'g ready to use NAS box... pero, kun dili hilig mag kuri2x ang user, mas better ang ready to use NAS box pud... puro ni sila naa'y negative & positive... depende ra gyud kun unsa ang atoang inclination...
if enterprise use, aw, go enterprise server/ NAS para 24/7 ang support... mahal pero, company bitaw ang mogasto... but if ang company kay SOHO level pa for now, diri mo swak ang mag DIY or ready to use NAS ang gamiton...
@lloyd_joy sir unsa specs gamiton kung mag DIY sa NAS 24/7. pang home use. less than 10 units ang mo connect. mostly mga movies ra. 8k budget
ty
you can use Celeron G1800 (haswell) series or kun naay G1600 series (IB) or the "T" variants ana nila or even the Ultra Celeron or Pentium series kaya ra bro for the NAS w/ that number of user and even more. AMD's equivalent CPU can be used too. an 8GB system mem is a must to have (for FreeNAS 8.3.0; 64 bit)... minimum requirement ni labi na daghan ang mo access... kun ganahan ka's mga Jails, gamit ug FreeNAS 9.3 and 16 GB... dako2x na nko'g system mem and thumb drive for the FreeNAS OS requirement ang 9.3 version... but, versatile kaayo ni siya'g use.
akoang gamit kay mao ni...
cpu: Celeron G530T
mem: 8GB (2 x 4GB)
mobo: Biostar H61MLC
psu: Antec Earthwatts EA-380
gigabit NIC: Intel CT series gigabit NIC
OS: FreeNAS 8.3.0; 64 bit... stored on a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer thumb drive
gigabit speed home network
running 24/7
try ko access ug 6 pcs at the same time, watch movies tanan, then file transfer pud ug dungan. kun mag watch movies tanan 6 rigs, ok ra gyud kaayo. kun dungan sila'g (6 PCs) transfer ug files... both TX & RX (mixed of small & large file sized) on the FreeNAS box, mo hinay ang throughput kay basic config ra man. wala ko mag tweak sa FreeNAS OS. kun mag tweak, ok ra gyud kaayo kay mao ni ang intended use nya. gamit ta'g ZIL & L2ARC then SSD for a cache drive...
then kun tweaked FreeNAS system na, mo sulod dayon to ang rule on the storage drive capacity and the system memory... that is, 1GB for 1TB of disk space... anyhow, mo mater ni sya for enterprise use if sa home lang, wla ra'y probs gyud... bisan basin config, pyts...
kita na ang mo decide if we'll jump into the RaidZ bandwagon...
pahabol...
pwede ra ang mga old technology HW pero, dako2 man ug kaon ug kuryente. just like my back-up FreeNAS na Celeron 450 (LGA 775), Asus m-ATX mobo (G31 chip set), 9500 GT GPU, 4GB DDR 2 800 MHz, 2 TB (2 x 1 TB WD Green HDDs), gigabit NIC (Intel CT series), CM 420W PSU and FreeNAS 8.3.0; 64 bit... stored on a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer thumb drive... mas dako pa sya'g power consumption sa akoang main FreeNAS server as mentioned above... on idle and @ full load conditions...
