as some have pointed out already..., you must not have payed attention to the individual post posted here, or not clear for you?
it was stated here: https://www.istorya.net/forums/comput...l#post17447834
so to iterate..., a NAS is just like any ordinary Computer..., its just specialized for a certain need! to serve files to others on the network.
You can choose any OS of choice! (Windows/Linux/etc), configure OS and the drive to your hearts content and that's probably it.
and to add...
DIY: almost no limitations in terms of features!, but power consumption is like ordinary desktop/workstation.
ready made NAS solutions: may limit you to some feature set, but power consumption is very minimal.
I suggest you need to enumerate things you really need for your NAS so that if a ready made will suffice or not.
pwede ra low wattage DIY NAS server gamit ug intel Atom (SoC), intel Celeron & Pentium Ultra CPUs (SoC), AMD Kabini like the A4-5000 (SoC) or the low wattage "T" series (celeron, pentium & core series on the desktop CPUs) and the "L" series on the server/workstation CPUs (like the E3-1220L series). kun gusto'g gamay ra gyud kaon ang NAS, gamit ug mini-ITX mobo. kun FreeBSD based NAS OS like FreeNAS & NAS4Free, an intel Gigabit NIC is "preferred"... then gigabit network speed pud ang gamiton...
@ TS,
nag mention man ka'g Windows Server... unsa man gyud ang need sa office ninyo diay? Kun kani ang need nimo, you need a "Server" and not a "NAS" (Network Attached Storage)... a Server is more versatile than a NAS per se...

sa tinud.anay lang bro.. ang gamit sa among server karun is for file server ra jd cya.. iyang os kay windows server 2003 pa gud.. gamit ra gud as dhcp, domain controller ug dns server.. typical lang nga server sa usa ka company ba nga didto naka save ang mga files.. mao naglibog ko if unsa ako e put.up "NAS server" ba or Server lang gyud ? ky kung server lang pwde ra ako.ako mag symbol sa server unya installan lang nako ug windows server os nya set sa roles.. pero ang gusto man gd sa company is mangita cla ug mo set up na daan as package apil na hardware mao nangita pud ko ug mga company nga namaligya ug in.ana.. package na daan ba..
I see..., para ana bro, dapat na-a ka list sa imo needs, then I believe na-a gyud company ana maka-cater sa imo needs, hatag raka sa inyo requirements para ila na 'ma-setup' sa soon tobe new server/nas, whichever your needs comeup with ^_^
para nako, wala problem in terms of hardware, na-a daghan diri companies makahatag basin sa imo requirements.
software nalang ug imo feature set/needs sa imo 'sever' kulang ^_^
hope tin-aw na ang tanan ^_^
