The point is, our society prides itself for being the top Christian nation in Asia, and yet many people on this thread seem to espouse an "us first" mentality, which is amusing, because I don't think that's what Christ would want. I distinctly remember him preaching mercy and compassion, but then again, I'm not Christian, so who am I to know?

It's all so telling, given how this country went bananas during Pope Francis's visit. But when the time actually comes to show empathy and Christian principles...well, some of the comments in this thread speak for themselves.

When Yolanda hit, Bangladesh gave millions in aid. That's a third world country with its own problems. Indonesia, yet another country with its own problems, gave another $2 million. You have the gall to receive foreign aid, but you think it's now unwise to actually pay it forward.

this commonality of trait among pinoys, kaning sobra ka makiluluy-on, is something that really needs to be changed. i loathe it very much. it fosters irrationality and keeps us away from seeing the big picture. it engenders unrealistic approach in dealing things.

it's not surprising why politicians tend to use sympathy trick against the masa miskan overused na kaayo. because it's effective!
i see it more of a weak point sa atoa rather than considering it as our strength.

I think ang iya point dri bro is we can't ignore that fact that people will die in that boat including hundreds of children who are below 5 years old. Let's omit the "religion" and "political" crap. These people are drinking their own piss and have not eaten for days or weeks, and in the next few days, if still ignored, it will be an impending humanitarian crisis and disaster. A "mini-holocaust" scenario.
