ok, if indeed it was a BUK missile system hit the plane... the BUK system is a very capable high altitude anti-air missile... BUT... even if its radar guided it cant distinguished if its a military or a civiallian aircraft (its a limitation of the system..) BUK AA can operate on its own or with a ground radar... for it to effectively distinguisged civillian over military target it has to be paired with another system that tracks civillian aircraft... chances of stupid idiot pushing the red button without being paired with a system that helps distinguished civ or mil... deserved a lifetime darwin awards...

There are reports of a spanish ATC tweeting what transpired minutes before the plain was shot down. He indicated that the Plane was escorted by Ukrainian fighter jets. The escorts separated from the plane minutes before it was shot down. He then indicated that the missile was actually fired from Kiev-controlled territory.

Minutes after the crash a group of militia went into the ATC deleting flight records and sanitizing the whole incident. He and others were instructed to tell news about the version from the militia group.
