ata cables as far as i know,

those ATA133 that are made in china are colored yellow.very fine lines and yeah ..it's an 80wire - 40 pin conductor cable.
gamit kau ni if 7200 rpm western digital or maxtor imo hdd.

colors are not applicable for rounded cables since they are custom made for cpu casing cooling air streamlining and thus pre-labeled before sold commercially.( they also come in ata 33/66/100/133 flavors.) and in many brands too. and i believe blue chip pc company don't made them.(3rd party supplier with brands of your choice : maka DFI ka bah?) maka -ASUS ako, so i use asus black colored ata133 rounded cables. my partner her is maka MSI, so he's using red colored ATA 133 rounded cables for hdd and rounded ATA33 cables.

the first ATA100 ide cables are made for seagates barracudas on intel boards ( both don't have ATA133s then ) they are colored gray with blue connectors on the tips.. same fine line as with ATA133

high end boards then comes with 2 ATA133 cables and 1 ATA33 cable.

now the ATA66, which are first used with the first barracudas ( an elite then ) they are grays with not so fine line with shielded 80wires on 40pin connectors ( shielded againts cross talking ) black tips. karon, magamit kau ni sa mga new ata66 dvd-rom/rw

and the classic ata33. dagko ug lines for older ata33 5400 rpm hdds/ cd rom/rw/older dvd rw.

anyways .. number denotes theoritical transfer speed.

and for ur case, it wud be best if u use ur 80gb as primary and ur 40 as slave with an ata100 cable if ur having a seagate.

or single 80gb ata100 as master on ide1 slot

and ur 40gb as secondary master with optical as slave on ide2 slot.

based on experience and reading, not just opinion.

bought one a few days ago from arctech. a rounded IDE cable... didn't give a dang about its type or PINS... just installed for my 250 and 120 HD. the good thing about it though is that the manufacturer was kind enough to label it so you'd know where's for the mobo, master and slave. cost 400
