Default Cutting the IDE Cable: Feasible?

Since I just need to have the length of the IDE cable from the mobo to the first connector (SLAVE), and the extra length would be useless:

If I cut the excess off (from the slave to the master), then set my HD or Optical Drive to MASTER and connect it to the SLAVE position, will it work, and will there be no problems?

Lose connections would be a major problem even if you shrikwrap them, just tuck them into the side panel of your casing.. thats how is always done.

can be feasible if you are patient enough to solder each fine opposite tip =)..done that before on my elec 2 proj. with a ribbon type serial cable.

will work. im using it from time to time with no problem. if u use the usual ide cable (flat type), use a sharp cutter to do your work and use magnifying lens afterwards to check the result
