uo kalimot sad ang mga tao unsay situation under Cory. Daghan violations sa human rights under Cory's term oi, There were plenty of extrajudicial killings then. many imparted to Cory's Total War policy for her counter-insurgency efforts... Instability, infrastructure problems, et al you name it. Pero unsa may mahinumduman sa mga tao atong higayuna? "It was all good, because of People Power". Ka daghan rag ga nostalgia atong panahona. That's amnesia.
Very interesting topic...
Made me open my eyes.
Nah mao na dinha dakong sayop imo argument. Do you expect a culture of corruption and human rights abuses to be eradicated in an instant? We're not talking of magic here. Kay ngano when the new admin came to power in 1986, were all abusive elements and officers of the PC and the INP immediately replaced? I'm not sayin that Cory is perfect in any sense, maybe you were expecting her as the savior or god.. hehehe..
And by the way to those anti-Cory or anti-Aquino istoryans here who always label Cory as leftist or left leaning, then you have your own kind here rebutting your beliefs..
Policy gani NIYA, it's not about the officers or subordinates within CoC. It's the POLICY of Cory herself. The atrocities in the Philippines is something of relative consistency. It takes leadership to change the status quo, something which Cory does not have--that's why nothing changed. The resolution of the Mendiola massacre could have been her finest moment in the issue of human rights abuses, by being firm and holding someone accountable and give them the full-extent of the law, instead what happened? She wussed herself out of it.
In exchange for what? The last years of Marcos saw our national debt of over $300 million in the 60s soar to over $25 billion in the 80s. That's debt you and I are still paying to this day.God knows how much of that money went into Makoy, Imelda and Ver's pockets.
It's not the number of incidents that matters. As someone old enough to remember Martial Law, it's the palpable fear of government, of the police and military who are supposed to protect you, not take away your rights. If you so much at look at the police the wrong way, dakong chansa masulod kag barrel isagol ug semento. And yes, some of my family's friends probably met their end this way. Mawala lang kalit imung mga migo, walay pahibalo, ingon ana ang scenario sa una.
We take so much of what we do today for granted wa mo kibalo unsa kapa-it para sa uban ang panahon ni Makoy. Many of us think, "Sus, kung si Marcos pa toh ron, asenso na ta." Who are they kidding? Marcos was no Lee Kuan Yew.
this topic reminded me of my polsci prof in college when he talked about marcos' regime. i don't know ha, but he said our country was advancing during his time but the bombings and communist takeover might be his idea for proclaiming martial law.
that was Marcos' grounds for martial law. During his administration it was the height of communist infiltration in Southeast Asia. The communist had began to bear down on South Vietnam, the Khmer Rouge had began its taken over in Cambodia, the Federation of Malaya (and the UK) fought a brutal war with Malayan communist, while Indonesia was almost taken over by communists (until they decided to purge them out of the political scene, and by purge I mean massacre--from estimates of 500,000 to a million). These collectively inspired the First Quarter Storm in the Philippines--Marcos had to act else the communist movement would become stronger by the day.

So inutil si Marcos pagsumpo sa Komunismo bisag Advancing iyang Gobyerno? advancing man kaha atung Arm Forces atu nga time nganu kinahanglan paman mu declare ug Martial law? Nganu wa man lagi nailog sa Komunismo ang Atung nasud sa mga succeeding Presidents nga nagka Pobre man atung nasud anang mga panahuni ug WEAK pang Military?
