TAx na Kurakuton lang... paeta...
pobre man gud ta mao nang sa ato bulsa mahal, bug-at kaayo, pero sa mga kwatahan baratao rana para nila
It's mostly because of the tax. Even if the goods are smuggled, the smugglers are still going to sell it at high prices and just pocket huge profits because they don't have to lower the price that much compared to the legal importers. Not all things sold abroad are taxed, in the U.S. they have almost no import taxes on most goods because of Free Trade Agreements. This is one reason cars are much cheaper in the U.S. than here. Our car import taxes are at 100%, in the U.S. it is almost 0% (depending on which State).
Our taxes are high because the politicians suck. They wanna show the people they are taxing the rich, so they slap huge taxes on luxury, non-essential items and they consider things like electronic gadgets, cars, etc as luxuries most people can't afford. What they don't understand is that some of these things like computers can already be considered essential items today. We're already way behind most Asian countries in technology and many computer science students can't even afford their own computer how are we gonna compete with countries like South Korea or Singapore where the government even subsidizes their laptops and broadband connection? Our government just plain sucks.. such high taxes but you can't see where it's going I mean look at our roads. F*king pathetic.. we should hang all our politicians...

It's simple as tax + VAT.
..because of a corrupt government.
It has a lot to do with competition and location.
Certain industries are very competitive like the computer industry.
Sa USA, competition is very fierce and you cant just price the item high and expect people to buy it.
If you talk about digicams, mahal sa mga malls and here sa Cebu but usually barato sa Manila (hidalgo).
I used to buy tech gadgets sa Hk or sa states because of the big diff in price. These days, if im looking for low-end to midrange nga items, its okay na to buy here all factors being considered (u.s.a state tax, warranty etc)
Another factor is the weak demand sa local market. Few ra ang maka afford ug high end items so things like high end laptops are very expensive. Weak demand means the seller has to make more money per item sa high end rather than relying on bulk sales... So they need to increase their profit margins.

isa ra ata distributor sa mga gadgets i think it's MSI-ECS, look at their product line-up halos tanan sa when it comes to computer
Depending on how many and what kind of gadgets you want to buy, it might turn out cheaper to just fly to Hong Kong/Singapore buy them there and then handcarry them back home. A round trip ticket can cost as little as USD 300 and if the difference in price for a high end laptop is around $1000 then it makes it worth it and the added bonus you get to go on a trip abroad instead of paying taxes to our stupid government.![]()
Kana Bitaw Dried mango gikan sa Cebu Pirting Mahala man ig abot sa lain nasud, Sobra sa katunga ang presyo![]()
