Bro murag lawon ning imong topic dah.
    Ganahan ko makat-on ani.
By "cycle" do you mean "progression"?
Asa gikan nga key unya nag "drop" sa F#?
Are you referring to going modal? Like key of C and playing Lydian (F#)?

IMO mas maayo man tingali if naay mo-guide nga suweto compared to self study.
These can be appreciated when going to intermediate and up. The progress i believed will be is much faster.
Siguro from basic okay lang self study.

progression boss then back to Em...
lydian drops also in F# normally, and playing the key of C as standard can also be legit.
pero why it becomes legit, is the standard progression of CM that connotes its relative Am, and its parallel minor is Cm.

mao pwede ra matagak sa F# from raising Am's harmonics which is G#...pero technically kung mag modes ka,
bisan asa nimo ihapak musakar ra jd na hehehe

Ako kay self taught rapod ko. Depende man gud na sa imong purpose. Way back high school, jump2x man gud ko from guitar to drums. Maybe kay dili ko maka afford ug quality guitar and gadgets mao to wala nalang ko ni pursue ug professional guitar lessons. Then mas taas nako ug priority ang school kaysa music, hobby raman nako, pang past time ba.

Karon kay nibalik ko ug guitar2x, pero sipra2x ug basa2x ra sa mga tab. Malingaw man pod ko, labi na kanang mga plucking or mga lead2x na. Acoustic guitar ra pod akoa, so dili kaayo ko maka appreciate sa uban nga tones like pull, hammer, etc.

Professional lessons can teach you theory and technique but cannot teach originality. Take the lessons if you want to progress faster but dont stop there. Being creative and original is more important than playing that "Slash" solo note by note. I spend a lot of time working on different positions to play different chord progressions which helps greatly with my song writing. I also dont think anyone is 100% self taught. I still find myself watching other guitarist and learning new things from time to time. Good luck to you!
