what u miss to point is just the accent. you will know where you from if you hear there accent.. like in camiguin (love there accent hehehe). iliganon is quite unpleasant para sah mga cebuano. cebuano is sooo lambing para namo.. maranao is nice. maguindanao i dont like similar to arabic. cagayan and cebu is similar. in zamboanga there are 3 different dominant languages (tausug, chavacano, badjao).. cotabato ubay2x sad mga ilonggo. sah gensan sagol sad maguindanao, ilonggo, bisaya ug my beloved maranao folks hehehe(i worked there before). davao (some claim theyre tgalog :P) is bisaya in general though ang mga adunahan mag tagalog2x dayon aron ignon hilas..
overall.. yes, you do need tagalog if you want to travel to mindanao in case of emergency(yes, they well then think your from luzon ug kwartahan) d ka mka sabot.. lastly im restricted to surigao kay wah gyud ko alam ila language ug kuyaw malibak did2 hahaha.
