Liberty doesn't equate to democracy... but Liberty is the very essence in the concept of democracy, supposedly... Freedom cannot violate the freedom of others... It cannot violate itself... So what if the person will overdose himself with freedom? As long as he doesn't violate others, then let him succeed or fail by his own merit... Yes, it can be beneficial or detrimental to his own accord, but let it not spread to the affairs of others...let him not use the wealth of others to pay for his burial....

the problem there is, who judges who are mature and who are not? Do we surrender our liberties for the mature people to guide our existence? It has reduced men to conclude that some men are born to rule above others, thus giving the perceived natural right to impose their belief into people judged to be immature...
^ i caution the move for government mandatory education with the mission to provide universal education... it has hidden pitfalls... The department of education is one of the most corrupt agency of the government, and rightfully so.... We leave it to the government to educate those who can't enroll in other schools... but many still left wanting of knowledge...we produce robots, chanting what was inputted during school years, and not forming their own intellectual perspective into the runnings of their own lives....
We have a failed system of education... government can never fulfill the task. We were very poor in the past, barely surviving... but how come my mom was able to educate us at her own expense? Poverty should not be pitied, otherwise it will have misplaced sympathies that will make poor people feel good about being poor... "sagdi lang pobre ta, ky kaluy-an ra ta sa Ginoo" even in the concepts of Religion, being unproductive is not tolerated...
One pitfall i can foresee is that everyone will have the same dull curriculum, mandated and planned by central agencies like the Dept of Education.. They dictate what goes in and out of the curriculum... That is why we have so many people oblivious to the real condition of this country, they are educated to be followers, and a source of vote in times of elections...
control population, stop corruption ug pagkugi.
the rest of you may hate me for this but most of the time when i see the sorry state of this country I sometimes wish maypa nag totalitarian rule nalang ta. walay pabadlong/paugat everyone is disciplined. nothing like a little loss of freedom to teach us how to treasure it.
btw, you cannot learn self-discipline if you are ignorant. someone has to teach you/educate you to start. again, education is still a prequisite to what you expect.
