Hubble's website will give you the latest images. I heard it on the news that NASA astronauts went to the hubble telescope in space upgrading its components. That was a year ago.

You know what that image represents, is that our self worth, is delusional! Seeing that image will make you realize we are small and we aren't special! There is a great possibility that there are other civilizations existing, perhaps, 100 light years away? 1,000 light years away? Millions of light years away?

As what I said, we are just a speck of dust! And that's what I'm proposing.

And please, enough with the God topics! Your God has no bearing to this magnificent image!

I mentioned earlier, quit the religious talks.
So size is all that matters to you? Is the number of particles in a given organism dictate the worth of such organism?

If we are to gauge our significance merely by how much space our bodies occupy in the universe, then of course we would be next to nothing. But you really would not call your brother or parents "next to nothing," would you?

By the way, I'm an atheist. And if you just paused for a while before posting, you might have noticed the ABSENCE of the word "GOD" in my post.

You actually started the religious talk in the same post.

yanong, i was implying that don't ever mention God because God has got nothing to do with the beautiful image I posted above.

and that ain't religious, as far as I know.

^^ Just for the record, you are actually the first poster in this thread that mentioned the word GOD.

I see .. , I normally like to interact with TS sometimes , in your own opinion and thoughts , other than the magnificent images we see from the hubble wc I must say are quite amazing , as someone that believes in the project , what do you think mankind can gain through this project? And given a chance to be part of the project what would you do to further this interesting hubble project?

TS: how can one thinks about the whole of these galaxies without thinking about the great mind who put it into order? The Truth is: the universe did not come about by chance .. There should a First Cause of all causes. Call "IT" whatever .. believer will surely say GOD .. and so let us give due respect to these people also ..

He was actually quoting your response to my post. As far as this thread is concern, you're the first to mention the word GOD. You were making a strawman out of my post.

Disappointing. I thought this thread was an honest attempt to start an intellectual discussion on man's place in the universe, but apparently, it's starting to sound like another excuse to troll.

My thoughts exactly. And to answer the question, I wouldn't. True, we are a very, very small part of the universe, but it doesn't mean we can't do something big.

Wow, what a nice question! And that nice question deserves a beautiful answer.

On a serious note, mankind has a lot of questions about the cosmos. With the image posted above, mankind can gain knowledge about the entire universe, its origins, how it all started, the big bang and, you know, astronomy stuff. Mankind will be enlightened that we are a mote of dust, our planet is just a dust, a tiny dust, suspended in the light beam of the star, and that's our sun.

The image implies we are so small. And that there could be civilizations existing in other parts of our galaxy, or maybe in other galaxies, like the Andromeda, Sombrero, and the Pinwheel Galaxies.

Given a chance to be working with this project? I guess I'll leave it to the Hubble guys I would prefer working for NASA's SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). I have always been fascinated with the idea of ET's!
