Sa ako lang pud, tuo ko aning NOMA (non-overlapping magisteria). The NOMA principle can be summarized as follows:

"The domain (magisterium) of science covers the empirical realm: what the Universe is made of (fact) and why does it work in this way (theory). The domain of religion extends over questions of ultimate meaning and moral value. These two magisteria do not overlap, nor do they encompass all inquiry.

Science get the age of rocks, and religion retains the rock of ages; Science study how the heavens go, religion determine how to go to heaven."

Sa laktod nga pagkasulti, para sa ako, dili magka-rival kaning duha.

how does religion retain the age of the rock? Science would never study how the heavens go. they can only say one statement about it but will never elaborate more. there's no scientific proof it exists.

because of religion, 911 happened, bombings in the city, GENOCIDE etc yeah alot maybe are in heaven now.

Read between the lines, bro. Don't take everything literally. The statement 'Science get the age of rocks, and religion retains the rock of ages; Science study how the heavens go, religion determine how to go to heaven.' SIMPLY means 'Science deals with facts and religion deals with values.'

Again, that is my personal belief. Kun dili ka motuo ana, imoha pud na. Respeto lang ta sa tagsa-tagsa ka pagtoo.

science concludes with the use of the scientific method!

religion only believes on what their eyes cannot see! that an invisible flying spaghetti monster created man out of dust

    so funny!

When evidence started to confirm Georges Lemaître's Big Bang Theory, the pope started telling people that the Big Bang proved God's existence. Lemaître was claimed to have said to the pope something to this effect:

Stop saying that. If you were a Christian believer you could take the Big Bang and choose to interpret it as the initial moment where God created the universe. But if you are a nonbeliever, you can also interpret the same event to be indicative of a mechanistic universe that started without design or purpose. You can interpret it either way depending on your beliefs. But this is science.

    * mind you, there are religious fanatics out there who reject the Big Bang Theory.

Lemaître was a true scientist (and a true believer as well) who wanted to avoid another embarassment for the Catholic Church like the Galileo affair.

Is there a conflict between religion and science? Oh, definitely. It's even raging till today. Although Pope John Paul II basically accepted Darwin's Theory of Evolution and a lot of Catholics (e.g. Fr. George Coyne, Dr. Kenneth Miller) and evangelical Christians (Dr. Francis Collins) have defended Darwin, a lot of hardcore, fanatical fundamentalists are still clinging on to the old-earth creationism or its new incarnation, "Intelligent Design".

There are theories and ideas in science, however, which the religious accept. As long as these are not in conflict with their current interpretation of their religious beliefs, they don't have problems learning or teaching them. But history is rife with the struggles science and reason have to overcome at the teeth of religious opposition and persecution. Even today, I've heard religious people opposing a cure for the AIDS virus, because they say it promotes promiscuity.

You see, there is a fundamental difference in attitude towards reality between religion and science. Science state things in probabilities; there are no absolute truths in science. Religion, on the other hand, foists absolute truths on its adherents. Science makes tentative conclusions based on available data and observations. Religion, on the other hand, starts with dogma and then finds evidence to fit into it. Having said that, this does not stop people of faith from accommodating the scientific method...but it's always a slippery slope, if you know what I mean.

Your right about Science. Wrong about Religion.
Religion deals with the truth. The truth is being hidden because of science.

    in short,

ang sa science, sa science ra!

ang sa religion, sa religion ra!

they should move in a parallel line and not cross roads pra d mag-away. waa jud bitaw conflict. it is the people's need of being right above all that makes these two clash.

I beg to differ when you say there shouldn't be any conflict. The conflict is inherent and can only be stopped if religion itself is abolished. But we all know this is not possible, given the long history of religion, and the fact that billions of people rely on religion to survive.

The success of science relies on the demise of religion. We should advocate for evidence-based knowledge, logic, and reason and not rely upon faith and dogma to answer the most pressing questions about the world and our universe.

Science HAS to win this war against religion. This is a constant battle, which is why you never see it end.
