you won't survive with common sense alone, in addition you need ingredients like knowledge, skills, and values, in order for you to be successful in life! also, beauty is a plus! so, i'm very fortunate to possess extraordinary intellect and beauty!

i still consider this as a nonsense, flop thread!

OT: u consider everything aside from yourself as nonsense..just grow up.

Many people are contributing to this thread and enjoying the discussion. Ur the only one who thinks this is a flop. Unlike on ur thread, MANY people think it's stupid.

    Ur on your own here.

U say you have intellect and beauty, but you have a lack a sense of character and no class at all.

Commonsense is invaluable, but what would you talk about with somebody who rarely picks up a book? I think it's a case of striking the right balance.

    1. You don't have to choose between the two when you can have them both.
2 & 3. Let me answer you by this

Common sense is an inborn rational capacity (Reid)
It is an inborn ability to sense, judge or perceive situations; grows stronger over time
With education, common sense widens and strengthens. It is directly proportional to knowledge.

BRIGHT MAN UNTA KA PERO BOGO LANG- meaning di ka bright, bogo jud ka.
I don't really believe that there are people who are academically smart who does not have common sense. Their common sense maybe small but it does not mean that they don't have it.

common sense plus book smart = edison
    sakto jud ka!
    two thumbs up!

i agree with this, but more of enhanced and not acquired

You don't have to be a genius to succeed, you just have to use your brain. Those who are only good in academics are intelligent BUT they are not wise/smart. Intelligence differs from Wisdom.

If we use both education and common sense then we can succeed. If you only use common sense and believes that you don't need books then you will end up having little common sense. Don't misinterpret common sense of those who are successful from those who are ignorant. Yes there are people who have been able to succeed without even earning a degree but they don't rely purely on common sense. They have talent. Common sense plus talent (sales talk) = success.

    precisely!

if you want to excel then educate yourself

I will summarize this in equations

Common sense + knowledge = success
common sense + talent = success

now you either have talent or you have education.. that's it
you basically can't succeed with common sense alone!

I honestly dont understand what made you say that COMMON SENSE IS INBORN. lets take this an example, when you were still a baby dont tell me you already knew how to deal with things?OFC NOT!your parents show you and teach you how to deal and react with things. your parents tell you not to touch fire as it will burn you. but because you are curious you still do it and then you have touched it,then you felt the pain thats when common sense appears. itll tell you next time listen to your parents and dont touch what they say not to touch as it may cause you harm or put you in trouble.

when your a baby you dont know how to feed yourself, how to use spoon and fork, your parents teach you all these therefore it is acquired not inborn and yes indeed through education you can enhance it to improve yourself.

TRUE,IF YOU WANT TO EXCEL THEN EDUCATE YOURSELF BUT whats the point that though you excel and have a good education yet you dont know how to survive in this life?

this is my understanding of what i quoted "BRIGHT KA MAN UNTA PERO BOGO LANG".

i have a friend, we used to go to school together and she was our valedictorian. she was very smart but after graduation she got married and have kids and then she became a plain housewife to look after their kids. (NOW, whats your common sense tell you here? bright sya kay taas sya ug IQ pero bogo sya kay wala syay diskarte ). you cant say nga bogo gyud sya kay if you ask her questions that you can only find in books, makatubag gyud sya.dili lang to sya maayo ug memorize, grabe pod to sya ug memory pero mao lage, walay gamit iyang ka bright kay nagminyo dayon sya unya karon daghan na sila ug mga anak wala gyud na gamit iyang pagka bright.

COMMON SENSE DOESNT BLOSSOM NATURALLY IN THE MINDS OF HUMAN BEINGS,IT OF COURSE DEMANDS CULTIVATION & THE ART OF REASONING. EVERYTHING IS AcQUIRED BY THE BRAIN .common sense is acquire through life experience it is something that is not taught in school.

lets take your friend florida.blanca as an example:

she said she is smart and beautiful with common sense but yet here she is whinging about all the dramas in the country and how horrendous the country itself and the people. do you honestly believe she has common sense?
cause if you hear someone whinging and carrying on like a porkchop which he always do in every thread here, if you were her and you have common sense what do you think u should do? it either you leave the country right if you think life is better in other countries but why is she still stuck there? SIMPLE..KAY WALA SYA COMMON SENSE DILI SYA KABALO MO DISKARTE.maayo sya lang sa yawyaw or reklamo pero walay nahimo iyang yawyaw ug reklamo.

common sense to one might not apply to the other.

NOW MAAM, what do you think is our main goal why we educate ourself? to excel or to survive in this life?

for me lang noh, i'd say common sense.. common sense is usually acquired through learning lang nmn.. not everyone has common sense though.. common sense is being on the practical side..

for me, you dont have to choose between the two.. you can always have both..

common sense can be developed thru daily experiences and thru reading books, etc.. but limiting yourself to books alone is not good also..

revisiting the principle of Tabula Rasa could be very useful in this topic..

i hate to say this but i think the word should not be common sense. it should be STREET SMARTS or Book smarts.

street smart relies on common sense & personal experience (ownself or sometimes from others).

i'll have both. if book smart ka, you will learn theories, calculations, etc.. while street smart will rely mostly on own abilty & adoptability (which will you will only learn through own experiences).
