ISA server uses proxy but transparent (users will not know it is proxying).

If you are in XP you could enable ICS (internet connection sharing). This is not a proxy but NAT.

Proxy servers are useful if the workstations are accessing the same and common sites. Data are cached, so no need to download all data from the net if somebody already been or downloaded it. The proxy server will directly give it. This makes the user's browsing experience faster.

you need to install isa firewall client software to each workstation.

you can if you want to use your live ip.

i dont really know what you want and why you will not use your ISA in browsing in some of your computers. heres a real scenario in my workplace, there some guys who want to use Yahoo and MSN messenger but its blocked so in the access rule i add some computers in exceptions and in the DHCP i have to add that computers in the reservations.

naay advantages ang proxy but in my case dli ko ganahan kay even if i reload/refresh(FF/IE) the pages, i get the same images. i set nga mo clear ang cache every two days automatically. pero what i hate is that if mag update ko sa website and im behind the proxy, i have to manually clear the cache sa akong proxy. complain pud ang mga CMS users kay dli daw mo update. actually sometimes mo work ang refresh most of the time dili. but with ICS and NAT, ok kaau. you have to have a firewall though para you can really block those internet abusers. hehehe

Yes, proxies are a problem if not written well.
Like ISA, its is HELL. But it is normal kay Micro$oft made man.

On SQUID, ok ra kay ang dynamic pages are not proxied, only images and static html and is intelligent enough to know that the page is update so a refresh was needed.
