No Pain, No Gain

It's been months since I've actually gotten any decent exercise, and the only physical activity that I find interesting and fun is airsoft. So yesterday, Luthienne and I got invited by a bunch of iStoryans to join them in a friendly game at a gamesite near the GMA 7 compound, in Busay. I felt like I've been really "couch-potatoing" for the past few months now, so I really wanted to play, knowing fully well that the next day could mean experiencing the dreaded "pama-ol" from the previous day's physical exertions.

At first, we thought the game might get postponed because it started to rain early Sunday morning. But, after some sundances and various heathen offerings to the airsoft gods, the rain stopped, and Hotdawg and his comrades arrived to pick us up, and we drove off to the site. The trip to the gamesite was not one without adventure--at one point, along the route to the site, we had to disembark and unload our gear from the vehicle we rode on, because it had difficulty in climbing up the steep gravel road from the GMA compound up to the gamesite. I guess it became a little bit slippery due to the rain. Eventually the vehicle managed to climb the slope, but the rest of us decided to just walk the remaining few hundred meters to the site, as a sort of warm up.

Once at the site, I was amused by the fact that, just a few meters away was a huge statue of the Virgin Mary, looking down on Maria Luisa Village. We wasted no time and everyone started unpacking prepping their gear. In just a few minutes, we were ready to play.

Here are some photos of me, taken by Luthienne:

And here's a shot of Luthienne playing:

We played almost the entire day, and as I predicted, now I'm suffering from muscle aches, and a sore knee (after a bad fall). But it was an awesome day. Reminds me that I really need to get out more and stretch those muscles!

"now I'm suffering from muscle aches, and a sore knee" ... the difference between soldiers and playing soldiers. Real soldiers wouldn't even think to mention this.

LOL quite true, which is exactly why I prefer playing soldier rather being a real soldier, and precisely the reason why this hobby/sport exists. And the muscle pains are gone--they only occur when you haven't been out of the couch for 9 months (the last time I played), but now after two weekends, and jogging sessions in between, I think I'm getting back in shape.

Rodsky, ako'y gipaningot nagtan-aw sa mga litrato. Soldiers (real ones and pretend ones alike) should be made to wear tank tops and short shorts, esp kung naa sa tropics or desyerto. Slap on some menthol sunscreen on them, give them waterguns, and they're good to go.
