Many manufacturers have claimed to have the largest and sharpest TV on the market, but how do these sets really measure up? Let’s take a look at the current competition.

Back in 2007, the Italian manufacturer Tecnovision made headlines when it debuted its 205-inch display at CeBIT in Germany. The massive screen, which retailed for about 23,683,998 PHP, was critisised for claiming the title of “world’s largest TV.” As an article on Engadget points out, the “TV” was really a collection of 750,000 LEDs intended for outdoor signage.
Panasonic’s 152-inch 3D Plasma TV
In 2011, Panasonic premiered its massive 152-inch 3D plasma TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Since then, this behemoth set has generated a lot of buzz not only for its size, but also for its picture quality. The 152-inch screen boasts a 4K2K definition full HD 3D plasma display that makes it ideal for reproducing your favourite 3D titles at home. As you might expect, the set comes with a huge price tag—21,785,000 PHP to be exact. While the average homeowner may not be able to afford it, Panasonic’s 152-inch display can be found in pubs, restaurants, and office buildings worldwide.
While Panasonic may claim the title of the biggest 3D plasma TV on the market, Samsung’s 110-inch screen promises to be the biggest ultra-high definition (UHD) TV of all time. The company unveiled the massive set at CES earlier this year, and according to an article in USA Today, its 3840 x 2160 resolution gives it the best pixel density ever seen in a consumer television. Samsung has not leaked an official release date or price for the TV.
LG’s 100-inch Laser TV

Also debuting at CES 2013 was LG’s 100-inch “laser TV.” As the name implies, LG is marketing this device as a TV of sorts, though critics have been quick to point out that it functions more like an extremely large projector than a traditional TV. While its 435,700 PHP price tag is much lower than the other “TVs” listed here, critics believe it will develop its own niche market rather than competing directly with traditional TV sets.
Earlier this summer, Sharp’s much-anticipated 90-inch Aquos 3D LED TV arrived in Europe. This gigantic LED TV—which boasts a 1080p resolution—is currently retailing for about 812,336 PHP. While the company has marketed the TV as the largest LED screen in the world, an article in The Telegraph points out that it may not have the best picture quality: its competitor, an 84-inch LG TV, uses the more innovative UHD technology.
The Verdict
Panasonic’s 152-inch plasma TV and Sharp’s 90-inch LED TV make the best cases for “world’s largest TV” right now, but when Samsung finally puts a price tag and release date on its 110-inch UHD TV, it will likely become the industry leader in terms of size and resolution.
