She didn't necessarily say this to us but as we cyber-stalked, we found out that apart from having an angelic voice, she was also recognized for her beauty and brains. Sorry Sitti, but we must share this to our iSTORYAns. (hehehe). She graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BS Economics degree and was even a dean's lister in her university. In high school, she was editor-in-chief of their school paper and graduated class valedictorian. Phew!
And not just that she won 2 beauty pageant awards: Miss Visayas 2001 in the Miss Travel Girl Pageant and the first runner-up for "Miss Silka" where she was also crowned Miss Friendship and Best in Swimwear.
Career Obstacles
You might feel that things are smooth sailing for our Bossa Nova Queen but she shared that she had her shares of self-doubts as well, especially when some purists asked why she was the Queen of Bossa Nova or why she became famous. However, she also inspired us by saying that while she had self-doubts, she didn't give in to it. She instead put herself in perspective, reminding herself that it's all about the songs and the people inspired by them. As long as there are people inspired by her music, she will always know deep in her heart that she's doing something right.
Talent Sharpening
Asked what it takes to be a good musician, a great singer and an amazing artist, she gave us some tips. First, you must really learn to love the music and what you do. Otherwise, you won't last in what you do. Without love for what you're doing, people can see and feel the insincerity of your craft.
Second is experience. Talent alone is given but you need to sharpen yourself as there are other singers out there. Practice, practice, practice! She shared her experience where she had to start singing by 16, where she did gigs in hotels, lounges, bars and really went through all the hard work before the album came out. You could say that she has paid her dues as an artist. She mentioned that being an artist is a never-ending process of perfecting your talent and moving above what you've already achieved.
Lastly, she advised to never let the passion die down. Let it burn by improving your craft and doing things to make you love it a little bit more. For her, singing is not only a reflection of herself but a reflection of the people who listen to her songs. What value do your songs have if they don't help or inspire anyone?
Personal Favorites
Of her original songs, she shared she loved End it With You. It's exactly how she imagined it would be. Sitti is the type of singer who does not rely on experience alone to write lyrics. Like she doesn't need to be heartbroken to write about heartbreak songs. Her technique is thinking of a melody first then putting words into them.

Other than singing, Sitti loves to read, watch TV series, DVDs. At the time of our chitchat, she was watching Modern Family, The Good Wife, and Game of Thrones. She is also a diver and loves the outdoors, including spelunking. She was planning to climb Mt Pulag. She also admits that she dances crazily.
Unlike other artists, Sitti doesn't wait for a rest day. If she feels she needs a break, she blocks off her days to do the fun stuff and/or enjoy the lazy days.
If not a Singer
Since she graduated BS Economics in UP, she would have been working in a bank or a marketing or PR firm. Can you imagine Sitti? Nah, me too. I'd rather let her stay on the stage where she and her voice belongs.
What's Next for Sitti?
She admits that she wants to stay longer in the industry and be able to write more songs. She also wants to make a Jazz album and wants to be "super good" by improving her singing technique and be amazing especially in live performances, where your talent is really put to the test. She also wants to break into the international scene and make a name for herself in other countries.

Sitti's message for all iSTORYAns: Hi guys! I just really want to thank you all for the support that you've given me. I wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for you guys so thank you so much for keeping me going and for being my inspirations. I hope to meet all of you some day! The meal turned out to be fun with full of laughter and bickering. Amidst the fame, Sitti is just like you and me, or any other ordinary iSTORYAn who loves and believes in her music and never gives up.
Might I say it again that with her charming personality, great talent, wit, and beauty, one could never forget a Sitti Navarro. All the best, Sitti from all of your friends here at iSTORYA.NET!
