• International collab for ICT Disaster Response Conference in Cebu


      The CVISNET Foundation, Inc. (CVISNET) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation of Japan (NTT) will be holding the first Information and Communications Technology Disaster Response Conference in Cebu(#ICTDRC2017) on September 20 to 21, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. This is in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine Information Agency (PIA),the Province of Cebu, and Japanese institutions Tohoku University, Japan and the University of Aizu, Japan.


      The conference aims to raise awareness of the different ICT solutions that will aid in reducing the effects of disasters, resulting in the improvement of communication and response in the local community in the advent of disasters.

      “ICT Solutions can save lives during disasters.” says Jeffrey Llanto, Executive Director of CVISNET.

      Highlights of the conference will include technical presentations and demonstrations from important speakers from Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, USA, and local prime movers in the Philippines. DOST Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Undersecretary, Dr. Renato Solidum Jr. will discuss the importance of the Philippine Hazard Program (Disaster Prevention and Mitigation). Prof. Nei KatoDirector of Research Organization of Electrical Communication (ROEC) of Tohoku, Japan will share the Advanced Ad Hoc and Mesh Networks Technologies to Facilitate Specialized Disaster-resilient Networks. Other speakers will tackle on available ICT solutions, applications, and programs, best practices in disaster resilience and future mitigation trends.


      Expected participants will come from local government units, national agencies, local authorities, state and private universities, non-government organizations and the private sector, which will be comprised of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) officers, emergency responders and representatives from corporations, property developers, and the academe. Confirmed participants are from Cebu Province, Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command, LGU San Luis, Batangas, LGUTayasan, Negros Oriental, Pollution Abatement Systems Specialists, Inc., Fastcargo Logistics, Inc., Kausaban Foundation, Inc., Philippine Society for Industrial Security 7.
