Local filmmakers have been keeping the scene alive in Cebu. For 7 years now, BINISAYA Film Festival has become a venue to showcase local talents. The festival showcases films that are made by Bisayas for the locals and the broader audience.
Binisaya Film Festival started in 2009, a small group of filmmakers saw the need for a venue to showcase local talent. Since then it has made its way to university theaters and mall theaters around Cebu, and outside Cebu. This year’s festival is scheduled in September; a good number of short films, full feature, and documentaries will be expected. There will also be films from other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. And these are not just films, these are the best of the best locally produced films that worthy of the big screen, and Cebuanos deserve to see it.
Leading towards September the organizers of Binisaya Film Festival this year has prepared several events. On June 30, there will be a screenplay workshop by an award-winning screenwriter Ara Chawdhury, she is also the director of this year’s festival. You may also catch the short film screening at Vibo Place on July 15. For those who are interested to become filmmakers, a Film Appreciation Workshop on July 24 – 28 is a good start. And on July 28, learn from industry experts on the best practices in production and how to act like a professional filmmaker.
