Slingshot Philippines is the Department of Trade and Industry's Startup and Innovation Ecosystem Development Program.
A key component of this program is the one-day summit happening on June 11, 2016 from 9am to 5pm at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, which provides an opportunity for the whole canvas of the Cebu startup and innovation ecosystem to be together.
Slingshot aims to spur economic growth by boosting innovative businesses and by giving enough space and place to Philippine innovators, startups, and entrepreneurs.
The Cebu startup scene is in its initial stages. The last three years have seen an outpouring of events and activities int he community such as Startup Weekends, meetups, some conferences and trainings.

"Slingshot Cebu is an appropriate response by the government to an existing phenomenon", said Joel Mari S. Yu, incoming business and economic adviser to Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas R. Osmeña.
TechTalks.ph, one of the prominent players in the Cebu Startup scene, gave input in helping organize Slingshot. "Founders, startups, motivated people - this is for you! Show up and ask for the support you need and help the government help you", Tina Amper, founder of TechTalks.ph, said.
According to Wilfredo Sa-a Jr, Cebu Educational Foundation for Information Technology's (CEDF-IT) Managing Director, Slingshot Cebu will help the local startups get the support they need either from the government or from the startup community itself.
Ravi Agarwal, Founder and CEO of engageSPARK, will also be at Slingshot Cebu to talk about co-working spaces and startups.
