Default CONDOM ADS in BROADCAST MEDIA, pabor mo o dili? explain your answer.

LIBERTARIANS, RADICAL FEMINISTS, AND CONSERVATIVES, NOW IS THE TIME TO DEBATE ON THIS ISSUE!!! HEHE

PARENTS AND FAMILY GROUPS BASH CONDOM ADS
In a two-pronged initiative to stop the proliferation of radio and television ads selling a “condom lifestyle”, parent and family groups from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao petitioned the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the Adversing Board to enforce the ethical norms embodied in the Radio and Television Codes and the Advertising Code, respectively, and ban condom ads from these channels of media.

In a complaint filed with KBP on January 11, AIDS-FREE PHILIPPINES, INC., HUMAN LIFE INTERNATIONAL, and FAMILY MEDIA ADVOCACY FOUNDATION (FAMAF) reported that the frequent condoms ads on radio and television offend the community’s sense of propriety, decency, and morality by their intrusion into the privacy and personal space of spouses and married couples. They rued the use of young models on television, where the ads subtly purvey a lifestyle of illicit relations among the young. They cited the Television Code which says that premarital *** and extra-marital *** shall never be condoned or justified, and illicit sexual relations or any form of perversion shall never be presented as good, attractive.

According to the groups’ spokesperson, Atty. Jo Imbong, Executive Director of FAMAF, the condom ads appear even in programs for general audiences where children are part of the viewers and on cable television in shows patronized by the young. Citing the Code of Ethics in Advertising, Atty. Imbong said that advertising has a social, economic, and cultural responsibility to the community and the advertiser’s interest should take into account community interest. “Here”, she said, “the ads convey a vulgar message and mock the sensibilities of audiences.” “The Code also clearly states that profanity, obscenity and vulgarity, or presentations which are offensive to contemporary standards of decency or morals, shall not be allowed in advertising, even when understood only by a part of the audience,” she added.

The complaint before KBP alleged that certain television shows in a major network incorporate within their talk-show and interview formats subtle condom-lifestyle advertising and advocacy and blurs the distinction between advertising and news content, which is unethical programming prohibited and penalized in the Television Code. According to the complainants, the Advertising Code also commands that advertisements should always be readily perceptible as commercial announcements and should not create any misimpression that they are news or editorial items or public service announcements. Advertising, the complaint stressed, entails a responsibility not only to the members of the industry and the business sector but, at the same time, also to the community which is exposed to and is affected by advertisements, for which reason, advertising may not sell deviancy.

di ko pabor sa artificial means of birth control pero pabor ko sa freedom of choice and information so that the people will be educate and can decide wisely according to their beliefs and preferences.

    information should not be suppressed.

if the church, conservatives and moralists are against it, then by all means they should counter-campaign for it rather than stopping the ad and let the filipino people remain surprisingly ignorant and uninformed regarding these issues.

Instead of banning such ads, they should rather appeal that the content of such ads must be changed.

Nike and Giordano have some adverts that were banned too because of violent or sexual content.

what's the difference? kids watch late night shows also...maybe after 12 midnight nlng? hahaha

anyways, banning condom ads is suppression of freedom. but banning "ad content" may be more appropriate. besides, banning ad contents is a common practice everywhere in the world...just my opinion.

ang gibuthan ug maayo aning isyu are the "Frenzy condom" ads. what do u think of these ad's content?

    pabor.

keeping people ignorant doesn't make the problem go away. how do we think did our population blow up to 91million? a lot of it is lack of basic, vital *** education. not all schools have it in their curriculum. it is still a taboo topic.

in this case, it is not just the ad but the ad placement (when and where the commercial shows up) that is also the issue.
if child viewership is the problem, then yes, shift it to late night programming. children's bedtimes should be earlier anyway, right?

and whatever happened to parental guidance? the tv is not a substitute for babysitting by a responsible adult. if you leave your kids to watch late night tv by themselves, then something can be said of your parenting style.

the complaining group may have a point with regards to blurring the lines between advertising & news content, tho sometimes advertising DOES become news content.

in all, this is good. more noise, more information, more choices.

I agree with the rest of you here who are for freedom of choice and information. We need to educate the masses on protecting themselves against sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy.

However, because of the restriction of tv commercials, the advertisement on condoms have come out like it's encouraging us to have *** -- anyway we're protected because we can use condoms.

this is a hurried replay, for im on my way to my eye doctor but i'll repost soon
