    Default Qs about DDR2 533 & Intel E2xxx Series

I'm planning to buy the follwing next week (7K budget):

    PROCESSOR: Intel E2xxx Series Processor
MOBO: Emaxx INF-7050 or ECS GF7050VT-M5 or MSI945GCM5F

    I already have:
    7300GT DDR Video Card
    40GB HDD
Corsair Value Select DDR2-533 (PC-4300) & TwinMOS DDR2-533 (PC-4300) (NOTE: I've tested both on a P4 3.0 Ghz (LGA775) + ASUS P5GD2-X Mobo (Intel 915 Chipset) in the office. Both ran fine in dual channel mode.)
    ATX Case
    431W Enermax PSU

My question is...... Would it really matter that I'm using PC-4300 memory? Any performance penalties?

I've actualy done a fair amount of googling, and I found out that if I had gone with AMD, I would have some performance issues if I used my PC-4300 sticks instead of PC-6400. One review noted a 10% to 12% drop in performance. Thus I went with Intel.

I also found out that the E2xxx series only has an 800 FSB. IIRC, the LGA 775 version of the Pentium 4 with an 800 FSB ran fine with PC-4300 RAM in Dual Channel, so i'm guessing its a safe bet to use my PC-4300 sticks.

BTW, i'm not looking to upgrade after this purchase. I'm might just wait for DDR3 to mature and skip DDR2-667 and DDR2-800.

    Thanks for any comments.

AMD started supporting ddr2 at 800mhz... remember the memory controller of AMD is in the processor.

Intel uses a quad pumped bus. so 800 FSB is actually 200mhz similary 1066mhz FSB is running at 266mhz.

so your rams will do fine.

Your 533 modules will do perfectly fine, as the E2xxx series runs at a 266 fsb ( 533 quad pumped bus ) although it does officially support upto 800 but that should not provide any performance difference on your end, especially if your 533's run at 4-4-4-12 timing or lower.

    Correction,

The 800FSB stated is for the memory, the memory isnt included in the quad pumped bus calculation so 800 gives you 400Mhz, The CPU carries the quad pumped calculation thus running at 1066 if it is stated at 266 fsb

    Thanks for the info everyone.

hmmmmmm........... I've finally narrowed down my choices.

    Store: PC Express
Processor: E2xxx Series. Most probably E2180 unless of course the price on the E2200 goes below 4k.
Mobo: Undecided. I'm still deciding on the ECS GF7050VT-M5 (V1.0) OR MSI 945GCM5-F OR Asrock Conroe/Wolfdale1333-D667 OR ECS 945GCT-M2/1333.

Apparently PCX does'nt have Emaxx Mobos. Can anyone help me on that regard?
