The Flash real identity

Hey guys Im a sucker for super hero characters so Im really bothered by this one, hope you guys can help me on my predicament. During the early 90s there was The Flash TV series and his alter ego's name was Barry Allen, he was a police officer working in a crime lab. Then there was the Justice League animated series in which his name was Wally West and recently, I just watched an episode of Smallville where the Flash made his guest appearance and his name was Bart Allen. Also, the name Wally West & Barry Allen was mentioned in the series as his other fake IDs. Will somebody tell me what is the real name of the Flash? and why does Flash have different names on the different shows. Thanks

flash 1 = jay garrick
flash 2 = barry allen
flash 3 = wally west aka kid flash (barry's nephew)
flash 4 = bart allen aka impulse (barry's grandson)
