Is there something like this going on in Cebu? Like in movie clubs or movie critic clubs here? The idea is this...
Say there are six people (not necessarily friends but perhaps they know each other via an internet forum like this one) who regularly watch movies. They put their names in a hat every last day of the month. Someone draws a name from the hat. If he/she draws her own name, she removes that piece of paper and draws again. The name she draws is the lucky person who will receive the following:
a) A free ticket to a new movie--the other 5 people will divide the price of the 6th ticket among themselves.
b) The lucky person has the CHOICE of which movie to watch
So basically the other 5 guys and gals PAY the lucky person to watch that lucky person's movie.
The whole process gets repeated every month, or twice every month if there are new movies released in the theater.
This concept only works if:
a) The people involved in the pool aren't really into "niche" movies (i.e. they only want to watch Filipino movies, or ONLY English movies, or ONLY drama, or ONLY action movies), meaning, you have to be an all-around movie goer for this system to work.
b) The people involved are regular moviegoers, meaning they are willing to set aside a few hundred pesos every month to watch movies on the big screen
c) The people involved are open to criticism of the movies being watched, because this is the only "balos" that the other 5 can have, esp. if they don't like the movie choice of the lucky person. This also promotes a good venue for post-movie analysis, discussion and critique. Furthermore, it exposes a moviegoer to the other types of movies that other people in the group watch.
Interesting if there is something like this going on here, and if there is already one, I'd like to join.
