Portable Storage Device (PSD) were here years ago. 2.5 and the 3.5 version. The traditional way of doing it is to buy the case which converts the IDE HDD into a USB interface then buy the HDD. This however limits the user to the maximum HDD capacity available in the local market which today I think is up to 160GB.
Just a couple of days, I came across the same PSD but this time, it has much larger storage capacity. Minimum of which is 250GB. Still the interface is USB 2.0. What these boxes differ from the usual PSD is that, the drive is integrated to the box. Not user changeable.
For Seagate, they call it FreeAgent. Maxtor and Philips have also their own version of this.
The FreeAgent have four models, FreeAgent Pro, FreeAgent Desktop, FreeAgent Go, and FreeAgent Go Small. What interests me the most is the new feature of FreeAgent Go where it gives you the capability of carrying your desktop, mail clients, applications with you. This would simply mean that you can access your application anywhere at any PC without going through the installation process.
I am not aware if this technology would be a big hit in the Philippines.
Anybody using these PSD?
