    Default Cannot Modify Registry [HELP]

I'm trying to edit/add a value for "Common Startup" at

    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folders
    or
    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User Shell Folders

...but upon reboot, the changes do not take effect. When I open regedit, the previous value (which is, in my case, blank) for "Common Startup" is retained.

    Thank you.

    Note:
I'm trying to add the value "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" to "Common Startup". I'm suspecting the blank value is the cause of installshield errors. Simply put, I cannot install the driver for my video card.

use tweakui. you can set these values there. or if you are running xp pro you can open gpedit.msc and edit the values there for these. you cant edit these values directly from registry since these values are refreshed when policies are loaded.

for information regarding group policies, you can find a wealth of info about group policies in google. im running xp home so i cant help out at the moment.
