Default new 2 digital fotografy, need advise

    hello everybody!

What a nice site you have! I'm an aspiring newbee to digital photography.I currently own a Nikon D70 digital cam with a Nikon 18-70mm kit lens. I'm not happy with the results i'm getting. Is it worth considering getting a D70S as an upgrade? Help!

how long have you been using your nikon D70?

what do you mean by not being happy with the results? overexposed / underexposed / composition?

like what agoroy said, just keep practicing. read some photography books, research on the net and ask fellow photographers.

Mamiya ZD on sale! The killer DSLR

Photography lovers, you have been waiting for a long time, and finally... FINALLY, the Mamiya ZD is available in Japan, pre-order now and get it delivered on the 21st! I sense a black hole however for 99% of our readers... let me enlighten you: Mamiya is THE reference for professional photography... and now they have gone all DSLR or Digital Single Lens Reflex! You already know the Canon 5D, 50D and other Nikons... well, we can say that these look like disposable cameras compared to this ZD (calm down, calm down, we're just trying to find a comparison so that everybody knows what we mean), and so this Mamiya ZD is a SMALL digital camera that weighs 1.2kg and offers 22MP (yep, twenty-two) for a reasonable 9200 EUR.

This is the info on the manufacturer's site:

"With over 60 years of experience in design and engineering of the world's best medium format cameras and lenses, Mamiya addresses the next generation photographer with the Mamiya ZD SLR medium format digital camera. The Mamiya ZD digital camera is the first integrated medium format digital SLR camera. With its built-in 22 mega pixel CCD imaging sensor it produces sharp, high quality rich tones in a surprisingly light weight, compact body that resembles 35mm D-SLR cameras.

Utilizing Mamiya's exclusive 14-bit A/D (Analog to Digital) converter, the 12-bit images are recorded at 1.5 fps, making it the fastest digital medium format camera. With its CF and SD storage options, built-in 1.8 inch LCD imaging preview screen and tethered FireWire® (IEEE1394) to Mamiya Digital Photo Studio software it provides the prefect solution for studio and/or on-location shoots.

Simple but powerful, Mamiya's Digital Photo Studio software offers a complete image capture, processing and editing solution in both MAC and PC based computers. Best of all, the Mamiya ZD digital camera is fully compatible with all Mamiya 645AF lenses."

    @rollyflex - the nikon D70 is a nice camera

fisrt --- the basic: study about lighting - a must! and experiment on different lighting situations with your camera, learn how your camera capture the different light situation and remember it by heart so that the next time you shoot a particular situation you know what settings you should use. afterall photography is basically about light... no light, no picture

second --- composition: this is all up to you, your own taste of art because we have our own preferences, however you can learn by scanning books and magazines and observe how the picture is composed and try to have the habit of imagining how you want your picture to come out before you click that shutter button.

third --- your equipment: no matter what camera you use, if you have the mindset of the first two above... you are set and can achieve wonderful pictures. but since you have a good equipment, read the manual of your camera- your camera may have different features that may be useful in different situations... and use it to your advantage compared to those who people who just have the P&S cameras

just my 2 cents sir... enjoy your camera

Your D70 and kit lens is a very capable camera. Just as everyone here has suggested, try to practice as much as you can. Since you are already using digital it's relatively cheap compared to using film when practicing unlike in the old film days where you have to buy film, have it processed then printed.

If your interested I can help you with your D70 provided that you buy me a cup of coffee at bos or starbucks .

Hey Nikon D70 is a very nice camera, many of the well known photographers here in Cebu (the Nikkon Users) are using D70, I just remember I think 8 months ago when I bought my 300D( canon), somebody from istorya.net told me that why did you buy that kind of camera that you are still a newbie in digital photography or phtography itself? I just smiled and told him it wont take long I'll learn this one.

But I cant help it but ask myself, am I on the right track? Does Canon 300D a good camera or am just the one who doesnt know anything about digital photography that think about my shots is because of my camera. hehehe think again as what the great Ted Madamba Told me,"it's not really 100% on what camera you use but the eye of the man behind it that matters" and yes if you have same question that I did 8 months ago, the answer is yes, you are on the right track, why go for some cheap camera if you have the money to buy the best in the market, go for the professional you'll learn photography by experience and as what they've said practice, shoot shoot shoot and have a connection with your camera, love it and live with it like a woman just dont make love with it kay mahal paayo ana maguba nya na wa rabay service center ang nikkon nya mag canon sad ka naa lagi service center binuwan sad makuha hehehehe bitaw, just shoot shoot and shoot, read, research and always ask to prefessionals things that you dont understand about photography, it surely helps. And just one thing, ayaw pag linaog share what you've learn, photographers are unique di gyud na magka pariha, just an inch of your height di nana mapariha ang angle so share share share and shoot shoot shoot. GOODLUCK!!!
