Default help? photography problem.. im pretty sure the masters can help.

what are the factors that affect the sharpness of an image??
i noticed a lot of my shots are soft.. is it because the nifty fifty is a cheap lens?
or am i doing something wrong while post processing? is my lens a bad copy?
    pls help.. what is it??

kwestyon muna, what's your exposure setting (f/stop, shutter speed also iso) and how dark is the place your taking
the picture? Did you take the shot handheld? Did you take the picture w/ flash? Is your camera set to
    soft/portrait setting?

maybe you can post an image, shot with the 50mm, that you think is soft.

post an image... if it is soft by the time you shot it (before PP)... then, you have an issue with your camera / lens.

My 30D, had a "back-focus" problem. If you focus on the closest eye in a portrait, either the nose will be in focus, the other eye or the ears... or even the background. Had it calibrated by Canon, its ok now.

I'll have another contribution to this thread after you post your image.

    in no particular order
    1) shutter speed
    2) fstop
    3) iso
    4) correct focusing and technique
    5) post processing (reduction of the image the wrong way can lead to soft image)
    6) lens
    etc. etc.

misfocused... or your lens/camera needs to be calibrated. check the collar / hair of the subject is sharp while the face is not (small image, mao lang na ako na kita). The usual problem sa 50mm 1.8 II, front focus or back focus... try another lens to confirm...

also, you are using 50mm 1.8 II... it is proven to be soft at wide open (f1.8 ). try shooting at f2.5 or f2.8...

obviously your shutter speed is below 1/50s... prone to camera shake... if you really want that exposure, IS can help. best way to do here is to increase ISO, that way you can increase shutter speed.
