Thread: VPN problem.

  1. #1

    Default VPN problem.

I have here a weird problem.

I tried to connect to VPN connection using my Quick VPN client and it connects. I ping the IP address and the computer's name remotely of the PC which I am trying to access and it works fine. But I can't map it. Why is it? By the way, we are using the RV042 VPN router on the other branch.

Need your advise on this matter. I'm on stuck.

Did you use the PCName to map.

Try using the IP address of that PC you want to map.

Yes, I do that already. \\pcname or IP address\shared folder, but still I have a problem.

Is there I have to change the RV042 Firewall Settings below:

Tonight I tried connecting our VPN and I am now in the internet cafe. I intentionally erase the static IP for confidential purpose. Here is the image:

    Status of the VPN

I tried pinging this computer name remotely located in the office.

    Computer name: asia

    Computer name: oslo

Now the problem is I can't map the drive:

I already tried the IP and computer name but failed to work.

    Please help. Thanks.

Hi... How about the COMPUTERNAME\LOCALUSER. What is the difference between the PCNAME or IP address AND COMPUTERNAME and also what is LOCALUSER?

LOCALUSER is a user in a certain computer name, right?

    Oslo = 192.168.2.100

its should be net use x: \\192.168.2.100\SHARENAME /userOMAIN\USER PASSWORD /persistent:yes

if you are using your computer at home and you VPN to your company network.
your DNS will not recognize your pc@home... reason why you need to input the IP instead.

LOCAL user is a list of user in your computer. sample like Ana or Fortaliza
DOMAIN user, example... Ana Fortaliza... probably the domain user is afortaliza@istorya.net something like that.

right click MY COMPUTER>MANAGE > LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS > USERS
there you will see the list of the users

    *********************************************
    Try this

    asia.linksys.com - 192.168.2.106

    oslo.linksys.com - 192.168.2.100

sample domain (copy and paste to dos prompt)(start-run-cmd)

    net use x: \\asia\SHARENAME /user:afortaliza\USER typepassword /persistent:yes
    net use y: \\oslo\SHARENAME /user:afortaliza\USER typepassword /persistent:yes

you should know the path and the sharename of the folder you want to map.
make sure the folder you want to map(in the office) is shared.

base on the picture, your setup is a domain.
    where linksys.com is the domain

This office setup is not a domain, it is just a workgroup. The linksys.com you found in the image is based on the VPN router. Our VPN router is RV042, made by LinkSys. Under the Web UI of this VPN router there is a default option linksys.com. Maybe I should delete that one, right?
