i think the best opening is still e4, king's gambit is relatively weak compared to the queen's gambit..

no such thing as the best opening in chess.. what is important is you are able to anticipate your opponent's next and succeeding moves. even if you are good in openings and not good in the middle and most specially the end game then you'd still loose.. defense if the best offense.

for me, i prefer playing the black pieces so most often than not i would go for the queen's gambit.
