fyi, Windows XP is far better than Vista(I assume this is the one you mean by new windows OS) in terms of compatibility, and vast range of available programs. XP as of now is still holding the crown.

it depends on what channel u purchased ur WinXP.
If it is a retail copy u have the right to transfer it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single processor based on the Grant of License sa EULA. Another thing is i know you have the option to purchase an additional license instead of another full software so that you can save.
If it is OEM/System Builder Pack you are not allowed to transfer it to another computer or machine since it is technically married to the computer where you first installed it.
