Default pfSense [lets discuss it here ^_^]

    good day to all!

here..., we'll try to share information about 'pfSense' [firewall/router]

    official website: https://www.pfsense.org/
    wikipedia info on pfSense: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PfSense

I believe that there have been multiple pfSense threads here but I'll try to link them as well for historical sake and information.
I'll try also to update this from time to time as time allows me and format it accordingly.

    Spoiler: disclaimer
I am not a pfSense guru and I may have no answer to your question(s)

Spoiler: previous istorya.net links about pfSense

    alternative to pfSense:
    -your generic router
    -Sophos
    -Kerio Control
    -ClearOS
    -m0n0wall
    -Untangle
    -zeroshell
    -etc...

overkill rasab ka-ayo imo i5 ana for pfSense , PERO!, kung mag "VPN" naka, then diha na magamit some features ana imo proc for pfSense ^_^ but I believe it will still sleep ALWAYS

pwede ani, himo kag 2mbps nga "upload" limiter (whatever you wish it to have..., lesser? ), dayon, himo kag duha ka floating rule for port 80 ug port 443 pero inverted ang matching then add-in here the upload limiter.

kung sa binisaya pa ^_^, walay limit basta 80/443 pero kutob ra 2mbps kung sa uban klaseng ports para sa upload...
    Good Day sir dabs.

ask lang ko question unsa na ang meaning anang option sa

Edit Firewall Rule > Direction [in, out, any] ?

btw i created the rules you suggested... do i need to select "any" para sa directions?

sorry sa late reply, got busy gyud to the point nga gamay nalang time bisan sleep!!!

BTW..., with those you mentioned..., what most people (@ pfSense forums) say about it is just put it to 'any' or don't select at all

pfSense is a magnificent piece of software..., to the point nga bisan hangtod karon..., wala gyud nila ma-document ug tarong ang kaning mga 'feature' ani nila , kai gikan pa sa-una hangtod karon kai na-a mangutana ani

in all honesty..., lusca..., is long dead!? 0_o or perhaps too old? as I don't see it as a package anymore with pfSense...
and I also have not used it personally.

I seem to read you on this, but correct me if I am wrong. Are you trying to implement a "REVERSE CACHE" as a means of saving bandwidth from your 'end users' as they endlessly "repeat" vid/site browsing?, you may want to take a look on HandyCache.

With my configured HandyCache..., I am able to cache youtube vids [in 360p quality] and also cache those steam download and updates and specially with dota2

here is the vid, kindly look at youtube buffer line and take a good look at pfSense bandwidth graph, you'll see that on the first half of the vid, it is downloading/streaming the vid from the internet itself, and the rest of the vid.., the sugar MV, notice that it loaded instantly and you'll see in pfSense graph that it almost did not download/stream the vid from the net.

since you have that i5 of yours as pfSense (if I remember that correctly), just install windows server [2008 or something] and install virtualbox on that and install pfSense as a VM. this is what I did with mine here at home and HandyCache is installed running normally inside windoze

and mind you , in our thread: https://www.istorya.net/forums/compu...-box-here.html

you'll see that version 2 is my pfSense box running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and pfSense is installed via VirtualBox + HandyCache!, spec wise..., its really low, quad celeron and 4gb ram and 500gb hdd and it sleeps most of the time
