I received 4 texts informing me of a recently-erupted fire near my home; at the same time, #fire truck and #fire men zoom past from behind. I follow

I realize I could help; I aid in making way for the raging firetruck

I get to witness the helplessness of the local residents

I stand up-close, argue w/ myself whether I should be useful or not

I get to see the #fire up-close (and got my phone wet)

A pitiful sight: resident and #fire fighter are tossing pails at one another

I climbed for a better view, ended up being a link in the human chain of passing around half-empty pails of water

A number of explosions are heard (watch the video later), at the next door over

I act bossy and text my 'appointment' I'm gonna be late after straightening the 'human chain' of quarter-filled pails of water

The roof became too hot to bear; we fall back 1 house backwards

That roof is now covered in flames, glad we fell back

We fall another house back, the heat becoming more and more unbearable

This ninja/resident catches me mid-swing, as my hop from the brittle roof beneath fails

More explosions (startling the guy with the 1/8th-filled pail of water)

We were all getting wet from up here; our puny attempt at throwing pails was growing weak

As the last person to climb down, I take one last glance—and get splashed again. I climb down

LIKE a snake seizing its prey, the flames crawled so fast from one crowded community to another, eating up more than 150 houses in Barangay Quiot, Cebu City last night.

Angelica, a call center agent, arrived home from work with the charred remains of her neighborhood as a grand welcome.
She did not cry when she reached the area. She grabbed her phone, took a picture of the fire scene while answering questions from Sun.Star Cebu, then went on to the temporary evacuation centers to find her relatives.

how ironic this unfortunate incident happened on Sinulog week at a place called sitio Sto Niñ0....

Some residents believe the huge fire was caused by a single, small candle left unattended on a Catholic devotee’s altar.

perhaps it is time the religious minimize the use of candles and use flameless led candles like this
